Endeavour

The First Full Series of Endeavour: Coming in 2013

Excellent news for mystery fans – you can now get your first official look at the upcoming full series of Inspector Morse prequel Endeavour. Shawn Ryan is back as a young Endeavour Morse, who is now just a new constable cutting his teeth on solving crimes in Oxford in 1965.

Endeavour premiered as a one-off film last year and was given the greenlight for a full series before it even reached our TV screens here in America (Which is always a relief!). This time around, young Morse will be back for four feature-length episodes, dealing with a variety of cases and hopefully featuring many more of those lovely in-episode nods to longtime fans that popped up all over the film. Want a look at the new series? The first trailer's under the jump.

Watch the First PBS Preview for Inspector Morse prequel Endeavour

Coming this July to Masterpiece Mystery, Shaun Evans stars in Endeavour, a detective drama that serves as a prequel to the beloved, long-running Inspector Morse series.

Set in 1965, Evans plays a much-younger Constable Endeavour Morse at the very beginning of his career on the force in Oxford, when he is given the career making opportunity to investigate the murder of a fifteen year-old girl.

Have to say, the photo of Evans leaning on a car that exactly mirrors an earlier image of John Thaw and his red Jaguar? Pretty awesome. Click through for a look at the first PBS promo for the mystery special, as well as an update on what we might expect to see after Endeavour’s conclusion.

Inspector Morse Prequel Endeavour Commissioned for a New Four-Part Series

Earlier this year, UK broadcaster ITV aired a one off TV-film prequel to the beloved Inspector Morse mysteries. Called Endeavour, the drama features Shaun Evans stepping into the role made famous by John Thaw for a look at the beginning of the detective’s career. The prequel, set in 1965, chronicles Endeavour Morse’s early days on the force in Oxford, when he is given the career making opportunity to investigate the murder of a fifteen year old girl.

Those of us in America haven’t even seen Endeavour for ourselves yet – it’s slated to air this summer on Masterpiece Mysterybut, even so, all the Morse fans out there can breathe an early sigh of relief. The one-off film proved so popular for ITV that the drama is already set to return for a full series. Four two-hour episodes have been confirmed, to be filmed on location in Oxford later this year, presumably for a 2013 broadcast. Roger Allam will also return as young Morse’s senior partner Inspector Fred Thursday, as well as James Bradshaw who plays Dr. Max Debryn. Thaw’s daughter, Abigail, will also make further guest appearances in the new episodes.

“It was fantastic that the audience responded so warmly to Endeavour,” said Sally Haynes of the ITV Drama Commissioning team. “Shaun’s portrayal of a legendary character was captivating and Endeavour thoroughly deserves a series – there’s so much more we can do with the character."
