Benedict Cumberbatch Imitating Otters Will Brighten Up Your Day

Benedict Cumberbatch as an otter.

We all know Benedict Cumberbatch is pretty perfect, right?

In the past year or so, the Sherlock star has done Shakespeare, read love letters, filmed a new episode of the world’s most popular detective show, gotten cast as the lead in a Marvel movie, been nominated for an Oscar, read a poem for the funeral of a long-dead British monarch, and generally been a great sport about the approximately one million internet memes about him that are going around at any given moment.

The most famous Cumberbatch-related internet phenomenon is probably the whole “Otters Who Look Like Benedict Cumberbatch” thing, which matched photos of otters with Cumberbatch sporting similar facial expressions.  It kind of became a thing online, and Cumberbatch has been asked about it before, which is only part of what makes this clip so incredibly awesome.

This Mother's Day Let's Talk British Movie Matriarchs

As we celebrate Mother’s Day this weekend, it’s only fitting to honor the qualities that make the moms in our lives so special to us. I have selected some maternal British film characters to illustrate these nurturing attributes. Though flawed and sometimes infuriating, you’re sure to recognize your own loving mother (or even yourself) somewhere in this list.

Celebrate Ten Years of "Doctor Who's' Return with This Amazing Fan Tribute

Ten years ago this March - March 26 to be exact - a beloved science fiction franchise made its return to the BBC after a nine year absence. It was called Doctor Who, and with the episode "Rose," Ninth Doctor Christopher Eccleston and his companion Billie Piper reintroduced the iconic alien with a blue police box to a whole new generation. Now, in 2015, it's hard to believe that it's actually been that long since Who came back to us - and that the show has since achieved an absolutely unprecendented (and frankly astonishing) level of global mainstream popularity. (I suspect if you asked the production team behind that long-ago Season 1, they never would have predicted this in about a million years.)

Watch: Highlights From Red Nose Day 2015

This year has been a monumental one for Comic Relief, the British comedy-based charity co-founded by writer/director Richard Curtis and comedian Lenny Henry three decades ago.

Comic Relief grew out of the success of Bob Geldolf’s Live Aid benefit concerts for Africa. Its efforts have united the people of the UK in raising money for aid organizations primarily in Africa and at home.

Watch: All Your Favorite British Actors Remake Classic American Films

It's a long running joke among anglophiles that British actors are positively taking over American film and television. Seriously, they're everywhere. Just take a look at this year's Oscar nominations, or turn your TV in the next few days (seriously, you'll trip over a Brit on some major network property within an hour or two).

Well, it appears that Vanity Fair also noticed this trend while putting together its 2015 Hollywood issue and, with the help of photographer Jason Bell, has created the ultimate tribute, in the form of a cheeky fake newsreel about Great Britain's war on Hollywood, which also re-imagines a bunch of your favorite classic American films remade with British actors. Spoiler alert: The whole thing is awesome. Really awesome.

Watch: Patrick Stewart Plays Every Single Person You Hate on a Flight

It’s already well established that Sir Patrick Stewart is basically a perfect human being, as evidenced by his hilarious Christmas videos, amazing Halloween costumes, and staunch support for American democracy, not to mention his epically glorious friendship with fellow fantastic Brit Sir Ian McKellen.

So, you’d probably be forgiven for thinking that there’s literally no way he could get more awesome. Well, you’d be wrong about that.

Sir Patrick Stewart Wins at Christmas

Okay, fine - technically Christmas is over. However, thanks to the internet, we're able to keep the holiday spirit alive and well for days after the presents are opened and the egg nog consumed. Which, thank goodness, becuase otherwise we'd miss out on utter gems like this video, which is basically the best present that the web could possibly provide for us this holiday season.

It is, basically, watching acting legend Sir Patrick Stewart crack up while wearing a dancing, musical Christmas elf hat. His reaction to the antics of his hat is so great, you'll be hard pressed to keep yourself from smiling as well. (And also you may start wondering where on earth such a horrific energetic Christmas accessory came from. No, seriously. Where?)

Watch: Benedict Cumberbatch Does Impressions of Literally Everyone

If Benedict Cumberbatch seems to be a bit more, well… everywhere than usual of late, that would be because he’s been out doing the press rounds for the impending release of his buzzy Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game. (Which, if you haven’t watched the trailer for that yet, you can do so right here – and you really should it’s going to be equally everywhere this awards season).

This has led to a veritable avalanche of Cumberbatch-related print interviews, video snippets and Q&As on various social media platforms. It’s so much that even the most die-hard Cumber-enthusiast (such as myself) may have had a hard time sifting through the lot of it. That’s why it’s important to distill all this down to the essentials – which is exactly what this video is. It is awesome and it will make your day.

J.K. Rowling to Publish New ‘Harry Potter' Story for Halloween

If Halloween wasn’t already one of your favorite holidays, if you love the Harry Potter books at all, it’s probably about to start moving its way up to Number One on your list in fairly short order.

Why? Well, in the wizarding universe created by J.K. Rowling, Halloween is basically like Christmas for young witches and wizards, but this year it’s Potter fans worldwide that are the ones getting a present. The author has announced that she’ll be releasing a new short story from the world of Hogwarts on October 31. (!!!!!)
