The Great Doc Martin (Re) Watch Continues – Series 2, Episodes 3 and 4

The great Doc Martin viewing marathon rolls right along this week as we continue on with Series 2, with "Blood is Thicker" and "Aromatherapy." It’s interesting to me that for the first few episodes of this season, the show seems to really have taken on a much more ensemble feel – not that it wasn’t full of strong characters before, but I am especially impressed by how we can now have storylines going on that are independent of Martin and may not have anything at all to do with what the “main character” is doing.

Also, I now have favorite episode. I just loved “Blood is Thicker” to bits!

The Great Doc Martin (Re) Watch Starts Series 2 – Episodes 1 and 2

The great Doc Martin viewing marathon continues this week here at Telly Visions as we dig right into Series 2. (I’m so proud of this so far – I feel like I’ve really committed to it now as we get into the second season. Hurrah.) I feel like the show is now basically established – for a lack of a better term – we know who the characters are and what they like and how they interact with one another. And now, with all the set up of our players and main storylines complete, I feel like we will get into some big things.

The Great Doc Martin (Re) Watch Continues – the Conclusion of Series 1!

The Doc Martin viewing party rolls on here at Telly Visions this week as we polish off Series 1. (I feel so accomplished typing that!) I am quite looking forward to seeing how this series wraps up and where we leave everyone heading into Series 2. I feel like these episodes have done a good job of setting up our characters and introducing us to Portwenn and the folks who live there. It’s slowly growing on me, so let’s continue on with the ride!

The Great Doc Martin (Re)Watch Continues – Series 1, Episodes 3 and 4

The Doc Martin viewing party continues this week at Telly Visions with episodes three and four from Series 1. We’ve now had two episodes to establish the basic set up of the show, so I’m curious to see what things look like now that we’ve some idea of who the people are and how the village of Portwenn operates.

William and Mary: Watch the Full Series in Order Starting Sunday, January 15

Time for a quick programming update that's sure to make a lot of you smile!

Charming romantic drama William and Mary, starring Doc Martin’s Martin Clunes and Survivors' Julie Graham, is moving to Sundays at 4pm on WETA starting this weekend on January 15th. The series will be part of a new block of British programming on Sunday afternoons, which will also feature Sherlock Holmes and Prime Suspect.

WETA will be starting William & Mary over from the very first episode this Sunday, so now’s the perfect time to jump in if you’ve been thinking about trying it out. In additional great news, the entirety of the series will now air in order during this Sunday timeslot! We’ve got all three seasons - 18 episodes - so you won’t have to worry about missing out on anything!

The Great Doc Martin (Re)watch Begins: Series 1, Episodes 1 and 2

Starting tonight on WETA, we’re broadcasting Doc Martin from the very beginning, and going straight through all four series every Saturday for the next few months. It’s all leading up to something a lot of people have been looking forward to, namely, the long-awaited premiere of Series 5. (It's coming in April, so start getting excited.)

However, this title might be a bit misleading – while it’s certainly a rewatch for a lot (most?) of you, this will be my first proper trip to Portwenn. This should be a fairly interesting ride, as I know a fair amount of the basic big Doc Martin plot details as a result of just spending a lot of time around anglophiles, but I don’t know the characters or how they relate to each other at all. I’m intrigued!

So, I hope some of you – especially the big fans out there – will click through and come chat with me! List your favorite moments from these episodes in the comments, characters you like, funny lines, whatever strikes your fancy!

Happy Birthday Martin Clunes!

Happy birthday to Doc Martin star Martin Clunes, who turns 50 today! Best known for his portrayal of the curmudgeonly, cranky Doctor Martin Ellingham in the ITV comedy/drama, Clunes has also starred in Men Behaving Badly, William and Mary, and Reggin Perrin, among other things. He was seen most recently in the fifth series of Doc Martin, which just wrapped up its run across the pond a few weeks ago and will be airing here in the States in 2012 – most likely in the spring. (WETA viewers who love this show to pieces: the minute we know a confirmed airdate, we’ll share it. Pinky swear. But it’s coming, promise!)

Clunes is one of the few British television actors where virtually everyone seems to absolutely love him to bits – so he must be doing something right. We’ll be doing our best here at Telly Visions to make the wait for new episodes interesting for you – join me in the coming weeks as I confront a rather significant personal lapse (embarrassing Anglophile confession alert), namely that I’ve never really seen Doc Martin. Well, an episode or two, here or there. But, still. Most of the series = complete, unforgiveable gap in my British TV knowledge base. Obviously, this means it’s time for a viewing party.

So, whether you’d like to take a walk down memory lane in Portwenn with me while we’re waiting for the new series, or just laugh at my reaction to a surprise character or storyline that everyone knows about except yours truly – stick around! Feel free to leave a rundown of your favorite episodes in the comments, just to give a sense of which you all might have the most interest in revisiting.

Tune-In Tonight: William & Mary at 10:30pm!

Heads-up for all our fans of William & Mary - tonight's episode will be starting a little later than the past few weeks, so make sure you've updated your calendars accordingly.

Due to the slightly extended run time of the special Mark Twain Prize ceremony broadcast, there'll only be one episode of William & Mary tonight, and it'll be starting at 10:30pm on TV 26 and WETA HD. Wanted to make sure that everyone was aware of this slight shift and didn't miss anything - and don't worry, we'll be back to showing two episodes of the series on Monday nights next week!

New William & Mary Tonight! Martin Clunes Sure Looks Different, Huh?

Starting at 10pm tonight on WETA, we've go two more back-to-back episodes of romantic drama William & Mary. (For those of you keeping track at home, these are episodes three and four of the series’ first season.) In the interest of full disclosure, I’ll admit that despite my vast personal knowledge of all sorts of British TV, I’m a relative newcomer to Doc Martin and the acting of Martin Clunes. In the interest of really full disclosure, I’ll even admit that I’m only on the first season! But, all that said, I can already tell why so many people love it, and I’m looking forward to catching up to the rest of you.

Anyway, despite my relative ignorance of Clunes’ acting resume, I still have to say that his performance in William & Mary is really charming, displaying a sort of quiet (even adorable) everyman appeal that’s almost a complete 180 degree shift from his role as the prickly, grumpy Doc Martin. He even plays the guitar in a band! I mean, just compare the two pictures after the jump, and that should kind of tell you all you need to know about just how far apart these performances are. (Plus, I had to come up with SOME way to share that - I just get a tremendous kick out of that William & Mary episode photo. It’s just so unlike every other image I’ve ever seen of Clunes. It’s awesome.)

Tune-In Tonight: William & Mary at 10pm on WETA!

Don't miss Doc Martin star Martin Clunes in a very different kind of role, starting tonight at 10pm on TV 26 and WETA HD. William & Mary features Clunes alongside Survivors' Julie Graham; the duo plays a pair of lonely hearts looking for love.

You’ll probably be shocked at just how different a role this is for Clunes! His character, undertaker William Shawcross, is a virtual 180 from his role as Portwenn’s Doctor, both in attitude (William is actually quite charming and nice and dare we say cuddly?) and appearance (Clunes gained something like 25 pounds for this role and as you can see in our photo, his hairstyle is quite a bit different!)
