Doc Martin

The Great Doc Martin (Re)Watch Continues – Series 4, Episodes 2 and 3!

Our great Doc Martin viewing marathon continues here at Telly Visions this week as we dive into Series 4. We’re so close to the Series 5 premiere now – and to finishing our rewatch! (Or, well, at least to it becoming an “actual” watch) I can’t wait to get to the part where I’m watching episodes you guys haven’t seen already!

Up this week, we have “Uneasy Lies the Head” and “Perish Together as Fools.” Several readers have said that Series 4 is occasionally (often?) frustrating going, so I’m simultaneously curious and anxious about how these episodes are going to go.

Because some of these criticisms about this season are – well, at least they seem so after three episodes – pretty well-grounded. The Martin and Louisa storyline does seem to have oddly stalled despite her being pregnant, Edith is annoying even though it makes sense to have her around, and Martin’s reactions to the baby news haven’t been ideal (save a small scene here and there). Series 3 handled balancing multiple plots and characters arcs more deftly, and the problem of a lack of perspective for Louisa seems to have gotten exponentially worse. We’ll have to see how things progress…but I’m nervous now.

Anyway, onward! Click through and come chat with me about the next two episodes in our rewatch, and feel free to leave your thoughts, favorite moments, funny lines, general rants, whatever, in the comments.

The Great Doc Martin (Re)Watch Continues – We Finish Series 3 and Start Series 4!

Our great Doc Martin viewing marathon continues this week here at Telly Visions, as we polish off Series 3 (“Happily Ever After”) and get started on Series 4 (“Better the Devil”). This is all very exciting as we’re so close to getting caught up – and I’m already looking forward to the premiere of Series 5 on WETA in just a few short weeks (April 28th!).

From a macro perspective, I’ve really enjoyed almost everything about Series 3, and I can only hope the quality of the episodes stays this high as we continue on. It’s a tremendous improvement over the first two seasons, even if I really can’t entirely put my finger on why. It’s something to do with balance and self-awareness, I think. Though I do have some problems (again) with the Martin and Louisa plot, but, well…we’ll get to that in a minute.

One Month to New Doc Martin on WETA!

Yes, it’s official – we’re one month away from new Doc Martin! Yup, Series 5 starts on WETA beginning Saturday, April 28. Excited yet? (I am, though I’ve still got to get us through The Great Doc Martin (Re)Watch first. But, I am confident we can do it!).

To celebrate this momentous occasion, here are a few Series 5 goodies. Click through the jump for a look at the ITV promo for Series 5 that aired in the UK, as well as a couple newly released American promo photos. And then let the countdown to the new season begin!

The Great Doc Martin (Re)Watch Continues – Series 3, Episodes 5 and 6!

The great Doc Martin viewing marathon rolls on this week here at Telly Visions with two more episodes from Series 3, “The Holly Bears a Prickle” and “Nowt So Queer.” And my general continued opinion: Series 3 is by far the best thing this show has ever done. It’s quirky and busy and occasionally really, uncomfortably strange, but oh, it’s so much fun and such an improvement over the initial episodes. I am already sad that there is only one more episode left in this season after these two. Sniff!

The Great Doc Martin (Re)Watch Continues – Series 3, Episodes 3 and 4!

First – a quick apology for taking an unscheduled week-long hiatus with this blog series! There were some technical difficulties (i.e. laptop fail) which necessitated going back to the drawing board and rewriting this. I’m going to pretend this delay made the post you’re about to read even better than it was before. Let’s hope that’s true!

After surviving some technical difficulties, at last it’s time to continue our great Doc Martin viewing marathon continues with two more episodes from Series 3, "City Slickers” and “The Admirer.” I have to say you guys – I don’t know what happened, exactly, but I’m enjoying Series 3 so much! It might be the fact that the show seems to have finally addressed some of its problems in the way that some of its central stories are presented (the handling of the Martin/Louisa relationship first and foremost), but there also seems to be a subtle shift in tone across the entire canvas, and there’s been a really perfect balance of characters and storylines featured per episode so far. I so hope it stays this good though the rest of this season!

The Great Doc Martin (Re) Watch Moves on to Series 3!

Doc Martin won’t be airing tonight on WETA, but you can still get your Portwenn fix this week, because our great Doc Martin viewing marathon is rolling right along here at Telly Visions.

This week, we’re kicking off Series 3, with episodes “The Apple Doesn’t Fall” and “Movement.” My fingers are all crossed for some real forward momentum with some of these storylines that have been spinning their wheels for multiple episodes now. Here’s hoping!

The Great Doc Martin (Re)Watch Continues – “On the Edge”

The great Doc Martin viewing marathon continues with the two-part Christmas special “On the Edge.” I’m never sure whether holiday episodes like this count as part of the season that they follow or the one they precede and I’ve seen some conflicting reports as to how fans of the show tend to categorize it. But, since I believe it’s the only Christmas special the series ever did, I trust everyone knows which episode I’m talking about, whichever season you think it belongs in!

The Great Doc Martin (Re)Watch Continues – Series 2, Episodes 7 and 8!

The great Doc Martin viewing marathon rolls right along this week as we polish off Series 2 officially, with "Out of the Woods" and "Erotomania." I know that this season had a Christmas special, so I guess technically we’ve got a bit of Series 2 left to go next week, but that statement made me feel very accomplished so I’m going with it anyway. Two good episodes this week, so lots to talk about!

The Great Doc Martin (Re)Watch Continues – Series 2, Episodes 5 and 6!

The great Doc Martin viewing marathon rolls right along this week as we continue on with Series 2, with "Always on My Mind" and "The Family Way." I seem to be on a particular pattern week to week with this show – one episode really impresses me and one falls on the more “mediocre” end of the spectrum. This week, it’s “The Family Way” that I really enjoyed (despite the fact that a significant portion of the episode was just difficult to watch).

The Great Doc Martin (Re) Watch Continues – Series 2, Episodes 3 and 4

The great Doc Martin viewing marathon rolls right along this week as we continue on with Series 2, with "Blood is Thicker" and "Aromatherapy." It’s interesting to me that for the first few episodes of this season, the show seems to really have taken on a much more ensemble feel – not that it wasn’t full of strong characters before, but I am especially impressed by how we can now have storylines going on that are independent of Martin and may not have anything at all to do with what the “main character” is doing.

Also, I now have favorite episode. I just loved “Blood is Thicker” to bits!
