‘The White Princess’ Full Cast Includes Essie Davis, Joanne Whalley and More
Production has officially begun on The White Princess, the Starz Network sequel to popular Golden Globe and Emmy Award-nominated miniseries The White Queen. After nearly three years of rumors, waffling and vague executive statements the highly anticipated sequel series has finally set its full cast, and filming is under way. Yes, really. It’s actually happening.
The eight-episode drama will adapt author Phillippa Gregory’s best-selling novel of the same name, which is part of her Cousins’ War series depicting England’s Wars of the Roses from the perspective of the women involved.
A few weeks ago it was announced that Game of Thrones star Michelle Fairley would be taking on the role of Lady Margaret Beaufort, Henry Tudor’s mother and one of the architects behind his rise to the throne of England. Thirteen's Jodie Comer was also tapped to play the young Elizabeth of York, the titular white princess who is forced into marriage in order to unite the Houses of York and Lancaster.
Now we know the rest of the actors who’ll be starring opposite them, including several familiar and exciting faces.
Essie Davis, best known for playing the lead role in the very popular Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries series, has been cast as Elizabeth Woodville, mother to Princess Elizabeth of York and “The White Queen” of the previous series. Wolf Hall’s Joanne Whalley will play Margaret, the widowed Duchess of Burgundy, who is sister to dead kings Edward IV and Richard III. Pride and Prejudice and Zombie’s Suki Waterhouse has been cast as Cecily of York, the self-interested and jealous younger sister of Princess Elizabeth. Newcomer Jacob Collins-Levy will be playing Henry Tudor, also known as King Henry VII.
Other cast includes: Rebecca Benson as Margaret Plantagent, Rhys Connah as Teddy, Caroline Goodall as Duchess Cecily, Kenneth Cranham as Bishop Morton and Vincent Regan as Jasper Tudor.

The White Princess sees England ostensibly united by the marriage of Elizabeth of York and King Henry VII, but their personal and political rift runs deep and the war that rages between them threatens to tear the kingdom apart once again. “The White Princess” is a tale of power, family, love, betrayal and death, which charts one of the most tumultuous times in British history uniquely from the point of view of the women waging the ongoing battle for the English throne.
No airdate for the series has yet been set, but it’s expected to screen in 2017.
