The Trailer for 'Miss Fisher & The Crypt of Tears' is Finally Here
The Miss Fisher & The Crypt of Tears movie finally has a trailer and a release date in 2020.
(Yes really.)
PBS fans are currently hyped for the arrival of the long-awaited Downton Abbey movie, which lands in theaters on Friday, Sept. 20. But it's not the only hit TV series from public television that's heading to the big screen. The Australian-based period-piece mystery series Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries has been chugging along with its own planned film. As fans well know, it could very well wind up a trilogy.
The announcement trumpeting the film version of Miss Fisher arrived before the Downton Abbey movie was confirmed. But Every Cloud Productions has taken its own sweet time in working out when the film will come to theaters. Initially, both were slated for a generalized "back half of 2019" release. Downton has carefully stuck to that, but Miss Fisher has been silent on the subject. Unlike Downton, which is being released through Comcast's Focus Features, and needed to adhere to the schedule, Every Cloud's Kickstarter method meant things have been a little looser and taken a little longer.
But finally, on Friday, Sept. 13 (Australian time), Sunrise on 7 announced Miss Fisher & the Crypt of Tears officially had a confirmed release month, if not an exact date in particular: February of 2020.

Several hours later, once it became Friday morning for us over in the States, the first teaser trailer followed.

Here's the film's synopsis:
In this big-screen Miss Fisher adventure, the exploits of The Hon. Phryne Fisher in 1920s Melbourne, Australia, lead her to murder, mystery, and mayhem from London to British Palestine. After freeing a young Bedouin girl (Shirin Abbas) from her unjust imprisonment in Jerusalem, Miss Fisher begins to unravel a decade-old mystery concerning priceless emeralds, ancient curses and the truth behind the suspicious disappearance of Shirin’s forgotten tribe.
The good news is that we now know how the Miss Fisher film will be released into theaters for fans to lap up. The rumor from the getgo has been that Miss Fisher would debut in its home country ahead of opening in the U.K. and the U.S. This is now the official release order, with the Australian premiere confirmed for February, and "worldwide" happening sometime after.
Moreover, as Acorn TV has trumpeted since signing the deal earlier this year, the movie will be released via its streaming service simultaneously alongside the limited theatrical run.

This follows Acorn TV's already impressive consolidation of all thing Fisher onto its service. Acorn TV currently has the original three seasons of the show, which exited Netflix this month and are now solely available through Acorn. It also boasts the new Ms. Fisher’s MODERN Murder Mysteries, which debuted on Acorn TV this past spring after it finished airing on Australian TV.
Miss Fisher & The Crypt of Tears will arrive as a limited run in U.S. and U.K. theaters in early 2020, following its debut in Australian cinemas on February.
