It’s official: Victoria has been renewed for a third season!
Ahead of the series’ Season 2 return in America next month, PBS and ITV announced that stars Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes would both be back for the third run of the popular period drama, which chronicles the early life and reign of Queen Victoria.
Season 3 is expected to start filming next year, and while we don’t know too much about what we’ll see in it, creator Daisy Goodwin did offer up a few hints. “Series three will start in 1848 which was a hugely dramatic and eventful time for both the royal family and Europe, with revolutions on the continent and uncertainty around the monarchy,” she said in a press release. “Viewers can expect more drama than ever before in the third series.”
Several official accounts connected with the show immediately confirmed and started celebrating the news earlier this week.

No one should really be surprised by this news. By pretty much any standard, Victoria has been a great success for both ITV and PBS. More than 16.2 million U.S. viewers tuned in for Victoria’s first season, making it the highest-rated drama on PBS in 20 years—second only to Downton Abbey. (Which was, if we’re all honest, a magical ratings behemoth completely unto itself.)
It’s still nice to have confirmation that our assumptions are correct though. For American fans, this news comes before Season 2 even airs here, which means that we can enjoy the new episodes safe in the knowledge that we have many more to come in future.
“Victoria’s millions of fans now have two more seasons to look forward to,” said Masterpiece Executive Producer Rebecca Eaton. “We promise them more of the passion and intrigue they relished in season one.”
Victoria Season 2 kicks off here in America on January 14. Are you looking forward to it?
