BritBox's commitment to continuing the Agatha Christie adaptation legacy is commendable, and more importantly, one that has been so successful that even Netflix is trying to create its own Agatha Christie Universe (the ACU, if you will). Up until now, BritBox has been partnering with the BBC to produce yearly standalone miniseries based on some of Christie's lesser-known stories, including Why Didn't They Ask Evans?, Murder is Easy, and Towards Zero. However, in June 2025, the streaming service announced it was taking on a brand-new series based on Christie's Bright Young Things detective duo, Tommy & Tuppence.

The new series, which updates the action from 1925 to 2025, will star Antonia Thomas (Still Up) as Tuppence, whose character description has been updated to "an actress and force of nature who won’t take no for an answer." Josh Dylan (The Buccaneers) will co-star as Tommy, whose occupation is now "a crime writer who has lost his passion but finds it again when whirlwind Tuppence re-enters his life." However, since both those actors are still technically in the "up and comer" crowd, BroitBox has also cast British A-list heavyweight Imelda Staunton (The Crown) as Tommy's Aunt Ada, who is now "a wry, retired private detective who loves her nephew, Tommy, because he never undermines her."

The new series is notable for steering clear of the original name given to the BBC's 1980s adaptation, Partners in Crime, which the 2015 revival also used, calling it Agatha Christie's Partners in Crime to help differentiate the two. However, because Tommy and Tuppence aren't as well-known as, say, Hercule Poirot or Miss Jane Marple, BritBox has appended the title to Agatha Christie's Tommy & Tuppence, along with the casting announcement.

Here's the series synopsis:

The new series will reimagine Tommy and Tuppence Beresford in the modern world, more than a century after they first appeared together in Christie’s The Secret Adversary. In the first contemporary English language television series adaptation of Agatha Christie’s stories, Tommy and Tuppence are a detective duo for the ages. They fall in love, fall out of it, and tumble back in, all while solving some thrilling, entertaining mysteries along the way.

Thomas, Dylan, and Staunton are the only cast members announced thus far and will likely comprise the series' main leads. The supporting cast is expected to be announced closer to filming, which is scheduled to begin in the U.K. in the second half of 2025.

Phoebe Eclair-Powell will pen all six episodes, marking her first series commission for television. As part of the press release, she said this was a “dream come true” for a Christie superfan. “Christie’s detective duo are witty, sharp and raring to solve lots and lots of murders whilst asking if they should really be more than just partners in crime.” She will be joined by directors Fergus O’Brien (Happy Valley) and Ellie Heydon (Outrageous), who split helming duties across the show's six installments. Stella Merz will produce.

BritBox is teaming up with Lookout Point and Agatha Christie Limited, with Eclair-Powell listed as executive producer alongside Robert Schildhouse, Jon Farrar & Stephen Nye for BritBox, Laura Lankester, Katie Draper & Louise Mutter for Lookout Point, and James Prichard for Agatha Christie Limited.

Agatha Christie's Tommy & Tuppence is expected to premiere on BritBox in 2026.
