Just in time for Christmas, Masterpiece is rerunning Season 1 of Victoria so you can have a royal holiday.

Albert: “Who is the biggest chicken killer in all of Shakespeare? Macbeth, because he committed Murder Most Foul….”
Victoria: “We are not amused!”

For those who are waiting for the return of Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes as the Victorian era's sexiest royals, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, there's less than a month until PBS debuts Season 2 of the luscious series. But before that, Masterpiece is treating us to Victoria Season 1 one more time. Starting  Sunday, December 17th, and running through until the new season arrives you'll be able to relive the entire first run of episodes once again and remind yourself how hot Albert's 1840s hipster hair was.

The rerun schedule begins with the two-hour opener "Doll 123" & "Ladies in Waiting." On Christmas Eve, we''ll relive young Queen Victoria's heartbreak over Rufus Sewell's Lord Melbourne in "Brocket Hall," followed by her meet-cute with Albert in "A Clockwork Prince." New Year's Eve brings the romance and the wedding of "An Ordinary Woman."

Then, January 7th will see a three-hour extravaganza, as the series airs  "The Queen's Husband," "The Engine of Change," and "Young England" back to back in a rush to get us ready for the new season.

But of course, it's not just upstairs that we'll be getting back to, but downstairs too. Like ITV's previous offering, Downton Abbey, Victoria comes with a healthy dose of the kitchen and servants. (Even if there's no Mrs. Patmore and Daisy to root for in the same way.) I'm not that invested in the whole Nancy/Eliza debacle with Francatelli that's slow motioning downstairs, but I will miss the food porn of his work in the kitchens. And then there's Eve Myles as Mrs. Jenkins, who is a peach, and Adrian Schiller as Mr. Penge. They are the most hilarious anti-Carson and Hughes couple to come along this decade.

Lord Chamberlain: The Court rejoices at your news…
Victoria: But. Your eyes are full of but.

So let's recap that schedule in an easy to follow format.

  • Sunday, Dec. 17, 9-11 p.m. ET. "Doll 123" & "Ladies in Waiting"
  • Sunday, Dec. 24, 9-11 p.m. ET. "Brocket Hall" & "A Clockwork Prince"
  • Sunday, Dec. 31, 9-10 p.m. ET. "An Ordinary Woman"
  • Sunday, Jan. 7, 8-11 p.m. ET. "The Queen's Husband" & "The Engine of Change" & "Young England"

Sunday, January 14, 2018, sees the two-hour premiere of Season 2 at 9 p.m, with back to back episodes: "A Soldier’s Daughter" & "The Green-Eyed Monster." For those chomping at the bit with excitement over more dresses, hats, horses, and scenery, here's the synopsis:

New mother Victoria is impatient to return to the business of ruling a nation, while Albert attempts to protect her from the increasingly desperate news regarding British soldiers in Afghanistan. Victoria is thrown into turmoil by the realization that she is pregnant again, and her equilibrium is further threatened by Albert’s burgeoning friendship with the lady mathematician, Ada Lovelace.

Like Downton Abbey, Season 2 will finish with the upcoming Christmas special tacked on to the end of the season. The show was just announced as renewed for a third round this week, so we look forward to more of the Albert and Victoria years into 2019 as well.
