Pride and Prejudice sequel Death Comes to Pemberley – based on the popular novel of the same name by P.D. James – will officially premiere on Masterpiece in the US beginning October 26.

The lavish period drama imagines the lives of everyone’s favorite literary couple – Elizabeth Bennett and Fitzwilliam Darcy – six years into their marriage.  As the couple prepares for a ball at their magnificent Pemberley home, Elizabeth’s wayward sister Lydia returns, and brings a murder mystery along with her.

PBS has just released the first American trailer for the drama, which seems to assume (probably fairly correctly) that many of us haven’t read the novel and might need a little more backstory on this particular drama. It’s a pretty good overview of what the drama will look like, and features footage we didn’t see in the original UK trailer!

Watch for yourselves below:

The period piece boasts quite the exciting cast, including The Americans’ Matthew Rhys as Darcy (who is kind of the perfect choice if you can’t have Colin Firth, am I right?), The Bletchley Circle’s Anna Maxwell Martin as Lizzie, Birdsong’s Matthew Goode as Wickham and Doctor Who companion Jenna Coleman as Lydia.

What do you all think? Are you planning to give Death Comes to Pemberley a try this Fall?

Lacy's love of British TV is embarrassingly extensive, but primarily centers around evangelizing all things Doctor Who, and watching as many period dramas as possible.

Digital media type by day, she also has a fairly useless degree in British medieval literature, and dearly loves to talk about dream poetry, liminality, and the medieval religious vision. (Sadly, that opportunity presents itself very infrequently.) York apologist, Ninth Doctor enthusiast, and unabashed Ravenclaw. Say hi on Threads or Blue Sky at @LacyMB.
