'Miss Scarlet & The Duke' Season 2 Coming to Masterpiece This Fall

After a long wait, fans finally have a release date for Miss Scarlet and the Duke Season 2 in the U.K. and a time frame of when to expect its arrival in the U.S.  Alibi and Masterpiece have revealed the series returns to the airwaves in June 2022 for U.K. viewers and will follow in the fall on PBS. Fans had hoped that Masterpiece taking point on the series instead of original network Alibi would mean American fans would get to see the new season first, but that's not to be. PBS viewers are looking at a probable 90-day window from the U.K. finale to an American debut, likely placing the show's premiere around the October berth where Granchester aired last year.

It's been nearly a year since fans have heard anything on the Miss Scarlet and the Duke front. The series was renewed for a second season in March 2021, with Masterpiece officially taking the lead as co-producer alongside Element 8 Entertainment. Filming for the new season began at the end of August in Belgrade, Serbia, moving the production from Dublin, which stood in for Victorian London in Season 1. Though there was never an official notice of when filming wrapped, series creator Rachael New tweeted photos from the set through the end of November, which tracks with the ~two-month time frame it took to film Season 1.

As part of the announcement, the production also released a new image for Season 2, giving viewers a complete look at Eliza Scarlet's brand new red and black dress that was hinted at in the Season 2 key art. But my favorite image from the new season is the one tweeted below, which hints at new obstinate men who aren't ready in the slightest for the detective they're about to face.

Here's the Season 2 synopsis:

In Season 2, London's first-ever female detective, Eliza Scarlet, continues to grow her private detective firm with the somewhat reluctant help of her friend (or more-than-friends?) police detective William "The Duke" Wellington.

Kate Phillips (Peaky Blinders) returns as Miss Eliza Scarlet, with Stuart Martin (Jamestown) as Inspector William "The Duke" Wellington, her partner in crime and potential love interest. From the set pictures Rachael New shared, it's been confirmed Ansu Kabia will be back as Eliza's heavy, Moses, Cathy Belton as the housekeeper, Ivy, Andrew Gower as Rupert Parker, her friend/benefactor, and Simon Ludders as Mr. Potts, who runs the morgue. Matthew Malone will probably be back as PC Honeychurch, but the rest of the Duke's office is up in the air until new cast members are confirmed. Whether or not Kevin Doyle will return as the ghost of Eliza's father, Henry Scarlet, also remains to be seen.

Miss Scarlet and the Duke Season 2 will premiere on Albi in the U.K. in June 2022 and arrive on most PBS stations sometime in the fall. No air dates or times are confirmed as yet. As always, keep an eye on your local listings.
