First 'Poldark' Season 3 Image Released
PBS and the BBC released a first look promotional image for Season 3 of the popular period drama Poldark this week. It features stars Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson as Ross and Demelza Poldark. And the two are locked in an embrace on a Cliffside, with dramatic skies in the background. It’s actually quite a gorgeous shot, and certainly looks suitably dramatic.
The fact that the Season 3 key art features both Ross and Demelza instead of just Ross himself standing around looking broody may indicate that the state of their marriage won’t be such a major plot point this season. (Though, there’s also that messy dangling plot thread involving Elizabeth and Ross’ unborn child that still hasn’t been resolved. That probably won’t go well.)

We don’t know that much yet about what to expect from Poldark’s highly anticipated third season, as far as the plot goes. It will likely be based on the next two installments in Winston Graham’s series of Poldark novels, The Black Moon and The Four Swans. (Though apparently the season will only make it through about half of the latter novel.) The expected familiar faces are returning besides Turner and Tomlinson, including Heida Reed as Elizabeth, Jack Farthing as George Warleggan, Ruby Bentall as Verity, Luke Norris as Dwight and Gabriella Wilde as Caroline. But they’ll be joined by a slew of new cast members, including Josh Whithouse as a dishy aristocrat named Hugh Armitage, Christian Brassington as vicar Osbourne Whitworth, and Harry Richardson and Tom York as Demelza’s brothes, Drake and Sam.
Following the conclusion of Season 2, a brief teaser clip for Season 3 was released. Of course, it doesn’t have any dialogue and is only slightly over 30 seconds long. But, desperate times and all that. (You can see a lot of these new upcoming characters flash in and out.)
Watch for yourselves below:
Poldark was recently renewed for a fourth season, despite the fact that its third hasn’t aired anywhere yet. Season 3 will screen this summer, beginning in June in the U.K. Unfortunately, U.S. fans have a slightly longer wait in front of them. The series won’t return to Masterpiece until the Fall, with the third season beginning October 1. But, theoretically, the impending UK premiere means we should get a look at some new footage via clips or a trailer, which would go a long way toward tiding us over.
