The First Photo of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in 'Sherlock' Season 4 is Here
While we all know that Sherlock Season 4 is coming soon, sometimes it feels like that “coming soon” is roughly the equivalent of, say, the earth crashing into the sun. We all know it’s going to happen, but the actual arrival of said event feels as though it will likely occur in a distant future, one that seems hard to properly imagine at present.
(Sorry, just going a tiny bit crazy from waiting over here.)
Anyway, as the clock ticks down to 2017, we’ve gotten a few tidbits to keep our Sherlock dreams alive. We know that filming on the latest block of episodes has been completed. There’s an exciting Season 4 trailer, filled with new footage that has spawned roughly 2,500 new questions about where the story is headed. The cast dropped some thematic hints at Comic Con. Sherlock apparently has a dog.
And now the first official photo of stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson has arrived. (Woohoo!)
The boys are back…but they are definitely looking a little rough.

Not that anyone can blame him, but poor John looks like he’s aged roughly twenty years since Season 1.
The moody, atmospheric brooding look is a good one on both of them, though.
Co-creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have promised that this season will be the darkest yet, so this photo seems kind of appropriate in that vein.
How ready are you for new Sherlock?
