The BBC and the press have bemoaned the lack of successful comedies from the U.K.'s public production studios in the past few years. Most of these have focused on the "easily offended" crowd and other nonsense as if one needs to be offensive to be funny. One of the main culprits is actually because most British comedies aren't really to American tastes, and the BBC funding crisis has necessitated co-producers to get made. (Compare the American The Office remake starting with Season 2 to the original, and you'll see what I mean.) In fact, the state of the actual British comedy is fine, as anyone tuning into Am I Being Unreasonable? on Hulu will find out.
The series is the brainchild of U.K. household name Daisy May Cooper, who became a TV sensation with This Country during the pandemic lockdowns. The first season arrived on Hulu in 2023 with little marketing behind it and almost simultaneously with HBO's Rain Dogs, just another random binge title in a sea of content flowing across Hulu from multiple competing sources.
But a lot has changed in two years. Dinsey+ is airing Bluey and Doctor Who, and Hulu (now a tile under Disney+ in many households) is the place for adults to find more prestige-esque fare. Moreover, Hulu now has a nice constant stream of British programming, making Am I Being Unreasonable? less of yet another throwaway title and something that fits in with a streaming service that includes A Thousand Blows, Black Ops, Big Boys, Obituary, Say Nothing, Such Brave Girls, and Rivals.
Here's Hulu's synopsis of the upcoming series:
Season 2 will begin where season 1 left off, mid panic attack. Has Nic got away with murder? Quite possibly. Has she raised her son Ollie to follow in her murky footsteps? Kicked out of the family home for brotherly love – loving the wrong brother – Nic is reduced to sharing a caravan with not so trustworthy best friend Jen. Husband Dan has taken up roller-blading to channel his mid-life crisis. Shunned at the school gates and cast as the witch at the school re-enactment Nic is experiencing hallucinations. Or is the someone playing tricks on her?
And here is the BBC trailer released in early 2025 before the series debuted in the U.K. in February:
Cooper returns to co-star with her This Country co-star Selin Hizli, plus Dustin Demri-Burns (Slow Horses), and Lenny Rush (Doctor Who). The supporting cast includes David Fynn (Belgravia: The Next Chapter), Juliet Cowan (Culprits), Phil Dunning (Boat Story), Georgie Glenn (Call the Midwife), Beatie Edney (Poldark), Amanda Wilkin (Until I Kill You), Helen Ann Bauer (Extraordinary), Marek Larwood (Drunk History) and Karla Crome (Misfits).
Season 2 guest stars include another This Country alumni, Charlie Cooper, plus Tom Davis (W1A), Denise Black (Queer as Folk), Jamali Maddix (Outsiders), British rapper Kojey Radical and American actor Chelsea Peretti (Brooklyn Nine-Nine).
Cooper and Hizli once again wrote all episodes of Am I Being Unreasonable, with director Emily McDonald back to helm all six installments, with Pippa Brown producing. Cooper and Hizli also executive produce, along with Shane Allen and Jack Thorne.
Am I Being Unreasonable Season 2 will debut on Hulu (or Disney+ under the Hulu tile) on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, with all six episodes at once.
