Watch the Trailer for Richard Hammond’s Crash Course

Raise your hand if you’ve ever said the following sentence: “I love Top Gear and I don’t even like cars!” I’ve certainly said it before, and I imagine the same sentiment will probably hold true for the latest addition to the Gearhead family, as well.

BBC America’s doing a new project with Top Gear star Richard Hammond, called Richard Hammond’s Crash Course, set to premiere in a little under two weeks. This isn’t a proper Top Gear “spin-off,” per se, more a distant cousin, I guess – but it does feature Hammond travelling all over the United States to  try out driving some massive, dangerous and awesome looking vehicles, including a tank, a trash compactor, and an airport fire engine.

In each episode, Hammond will meet the local experts who operate these machines daily and attempt to learn how to handle them correctly before he’s free to take them on a spin himself. While I’m iffy on whether or not I think a show like this will be as fun as Top Gear (half the fun is the banter between our multiple leads), I’m willing to give it a shot.  The tank bit in the trailer looks like a particularly good time.

Lacy's love of British TV is embarrassingly extensive, but primarily centers around evangelizing all things Doctor Who, and watching as many period dramas as possible.

Digital media type by day, she also has a fairly useless degree in British medieval literature, and dearly loves to talk about dream poetry, liminality, and the medieval religious vision. (Sadly, that opportunity presents itself very infrequently.) York apologist, Ninth Doctor enthusiast, and unabashed Ravenclaw. Say hi on Threads or Blue Sky at @LacyMB.
