WATCH: Teaser Trailer for New Benedict Cumberbatch Short Film ‘Little Favour’
Called Little Favour, the independent action thriller pairs Cumberbatch with Harry Potter’s Nick Moran and Arrow’s Colin Salmon. It follows the story of Wallace (played by Cumberbatch), who is contacted by a former colleague to help him out with a deal gone wrong.
The official synopsis reads: “"It’s been 7 years since Wallace left Her Majesty's service and 10 years since the American counterpart who became his friend, saved his life on a joint mission in Iraq. He's migrated his skill set into a lucrative business while managing to keep his secret battle with PTSD under wraps. One day, while finally deciding to try his hand at a functional relationship, his old friend James cashes in his chip and asks a “little favour”. How could he refuse when he owes the man his life?”
Dun dun dun….sounds exciting doesn’t it? And the teaser trailer definitely makes it look dark and intense. Watch for yourselves below:
The short film made news earlier this year for its fundraising prowess – production company SunnyMarch (founded by Cumberbatch himself along with friends Adam Ackland and Ben Dillon) raised over £85,000 via the Kickstarter-esque site Indiegogo to finance the production, blasting past its initial goal of £25,000 in a matter of hours. Yes, really. The additional funding allowed the production team to add an additional day of filming and generally up production values all around.
Cumberbatch, because he’s that kind of guy, actually filmed a video thanking all the fans involved in funding the short film:
No word yet on when or where we can expect to see Little Favour in its entirety – whether the short film is destined for a festival bow or online release or what, exactly. It doesn’t even seem as though it’s officially got a running time as yet. But, if this brief teaser clip is any indication, it’s going to be super high quality and fun to watch (even if it does appear a tad bit more...violent...than we're used to from Mr. Cumberbatch).
