Watch the Teaser Trailer for the ‘Downton Abbey’ Movie
The first teaser trailer for the Downton Abbey movie is here, which confirms one really important thing: This is real, it’s actually happening, and it’s not something we all made up during a shared fever dream.
Titled simply Downton Abbey, the feature film adaptation will simply continue the story of the Crawley family and their servants where they television show left off.
(The movie will apparently pick up just a few months after the series ended.)
Of course, this clip is the very definition of “teaser trailer”, featuring nothing that could conceivably be called actual footage. It doesn’t even have any dialogue!
But just hearing the new version of that signature Downton music swell over generic shots of the Highclere Castle grounds? Well, we wouldn’t blame you if you got a little emotional.
Watch for yourselves below:
(That cast card featuring just the names of all the beloved Downton characters? Perfect.)
The Downton movie officially wrapped filming in mid-December, after a nine-week shoot.
Almost all the major cast members are back, including Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Penelope Wilton and, yes, everyone’s favorite indomitable Dowager Countess, Maggie Smith. In fact, the only original Downton cast member who won’t be returning is Lily James, since her character, Lady Rose MacClare got married and moved away to America.
Downton Abbey the Movie will also feature a few new faces, most notably award-winner Imelda Staunton. (Who also happens to be Downton cast member Jim Carter's real life wife, because it's a small world in British acting.)
Downton Abbey will hit theaters internationally on September 13, 2019, before launching in the U.S. a week later on September 20. Are you looking forward to heading back to Downton next year? What do you hope to see in the new movie? Let's discuss in the comments.
