Most Americans are unaware of the Sky series Gangs of London, despite the show initially debuting five years ago in April 2020 and now gearing up to debut its third season in March 2025. While not nearly as egregious as, say, Rogue Heroes being lost on MGM+, from its first arrival on the then-newly-minted AMC+, Gangs of London has been running proof the AMC Network "flagship" streaming service is not making headway in the fight to survive. Despite starring A-list talents like Joe Cole (The Ipcress File), Michelle Fairley (The White Queen), and Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù (Slow Horses), the series continues to fly under the radar, with the latest trailer barely noticed by the American entertainment world.

The series is based on the Sony Interactive Entertainment 2006 video game of the same name from London Studio that's part of The Getaway franchise, which (to be fair) doesn't sound promising. The last decade or two has been littered with various attempts at turning video game franchises into shows for the big and small screen, and while every so often, you get something like Prime Video's Fallout or HBO's The Last of Us, by in large, most video games don't transfer well to non-interactive mediums.

However, Sky's series is one of the few that belongs in the conversation with other successful games that transcended their original medium. The series, which is a significant hit in the U.K., might be a bit heavy-handed in its video game-style violence, but otherwise, it's a superbly acted series that deserves to be more widely seen. AMC has done its best — Season 1 aired on linear on BBC America and AMC's cable channel — but to no avail.  At this point, it will take a miracle (or AMC+ putting it on a streaming service people actually watch) to get the show the attention it deserves.

Here is the series synopsis:

As chaos erupts in London after a spiked shipment of cocaine kills hundreds, fan-favourite characters collide with new faces bound by blood ties, sparking brutal power struggles, unexpected alliances, and fierce rivalries. Former undercover cop turned gangster Elliot navigates his new role as a top-level criminal alongside the Dumanis, but the spiking throws their operations into disarray. The Wallaces, Luan, Lale, and the street gangs face devastating consequences as personal vendettas collide with professional power struggles bleeding into violent turf wars. In the ruthless fight for control of London’s criminal underworld, no one is safe. This was no accident — it was a calculated attack. But who’s pulling the strings?

Cole, Fairley, and Dìrísù once again lead an ensemble that includes returning favorites  Brian Vernel (Shardlake) as Billy Wallace, Lucian Msamati (His Dark Materials) as Ed Dumani, Pippa Bennett-Warner (Moonflower Murders) as Shannon Dumani, and Asif Raza Mir (Khalish) as Asif Afid. Season 3's new additions include Andrew Koji (Black Doves), Richard Dormer (COBRA), and T’Nia Miller (Years & Years); Phil Daniels (Endeavour), Ruth Sheen (Unforgotten), and Mat Fraser (Kaos) guest star.

Gareth Evans and Matt Flannery created Gangs of London; Peter McKenna was again the lead writer on Season 3. Kim Hong Sun is the lead director, splitting helming duties with Farren Blackburn (The Winter King) and Tessa Hoffe (Kin). McKenna, Kim, and Dìrísù are executive producers alongside Thomas Benski, Michael Eagle-Hodgson, Vikki Tennant, Hugh Warren for Pulse Films, Adrian Sturges for Sky Studios, and Noel Manzano for AMC+.

Gangs of London Season 3 is confirmed to arrive on Sky in March 2025. AMC+ has not yet set a release date.
