It’s official: Cold case drama Unforgotten will be back this spring! Its third season will kick off on Masterpiece on Sunday, April 7.

The show stars Last Tango in Halifax’s Nicola Walker as DCI Cassie Stuart and Sanjeev Bhaskar as her partner in crime-solving, DS Sunny Khan. The two solve “emotionally charged and compelling” cold case murders and disappearances, and each season looks at the slow unraveling of a historical crime.

Unforgotten’s first two aired in the U.S. in 2018 in back-to-back installments, and the show was a surprise hit for PBS’ Masterpiece. Therefore, the news that the third season will be coming to America shouldn’t surprise anyone – but a firm airdate will likely delight fans who’ve been eagerly waiting for more.

The series’ third season will add some familiar faces, including Victoria’s Alex Jennings, Line of Duty’s Neil Morrissey and Indian Summers’ James Fleet.

Per the official Masterpiece synopsis:

The pair will be joined this season by acclaimed actors Alex Jennings, Kevin R McNally, Neil Morrissey and James Fleet, who play a close-knit group of old school friends that have stood by one another through thick and thin.

However, when the body of a teenage girl who went missing at the turn of the millennium is found at a building site off the M1 motorway, the four men are placed under the spotlight and their relationships are tested to the limit.

Set across the south of England in locations including Norfolk, West Sussex, Bristol, Hampshire and London, the new season explores how everyday lives can be fractured and destroyed by one event, showing that appearances can often be deceiving.

The crime drama has officially been renewed for a fourth season, but we don’t know just yet when that will air just yet on either side of the pond.

If you missed Unforgotten Seasons 1 and 2, they are both currently available to stream via WETA Passport, and we have recaps where you can discuss each episode with other fans as you watch.

Are you looking forward to the return of Unforgotten? Mark your calendars for April!
