The Trailer for Acorn TV's 'Signora Volpe' is a Lush Italian Escape
Acorn TV's latest original mystery series is officially set to arrive this May, and the project will likely serve as a balm for those of us who have been dreaming of international travel during the recent anxiety-ridden years of the coronavirus pandemic. As its title indicates Signora Volpe is set in the stunning Lazio and Umbria regions of Italy, and its lush backgrounds are likely to be just as compelling a reason to watch as any of the crimes its heroine is working to solve.
British television fans are likely already familiar with series star Emilia Fox from her role in the long-running crime drama Silent Witness. In this three-part mystery series, she'll play Sylvia Fox, an intelligent, confident 40-something woman who nevertheless likes to keep many of her special skills—her formidable linguistic abilities, impressive knowledge of weaponry, and bullseye skills as a markswoman—under wraps. She tells people she has a bland civil service desk job, but in reality, she's actually a high-ranking British spy.
Feeling a bit disillusioned about her career path and in desperate need of a break, Sylvia heads to Italy for the wedding of her niece Alice (Issy Knopfler). But when the bridegroom disappears and the dead body of a woman is discovered in the lake at the bottom of his garden, Sylvia steps in, determined to solve the mystery and save Alice's big day.
Despite the unpredictable start to her holiday, Sylvia finds herself enchanted by the lush surroundings of Italy, and is surprised to find herself reconnecting with her estranged sister Isabel (Tara Fitzgerald) who lives in the nearby town of Panicale. So when she stumbles upon a beautiful, derelict old house, she decides to buy it and make a fresh start in a new country.
But, Sylvia was never cut out for a quiet life and finds herself involved in a bevy of fresh mysteries, from the disappearance of a young woman 25 years ago, to a blackmail plot against the son of a Russian politician.
