Romantic comedy Starstruck will officially return for its third season this Fall, but if the trailer is anything to go by, it likely won't be quite what viewers are expecting. Because things appear to be messier than ever for the will they/won't they pair at the series' center --- who, at least for the moment, no longer seem to be a couple at all.

The story follows underachieving millennial Jessie (Rose Matafeo) whose life is turned upside down when a handsome bar hookup turns out to be a world-famous actor. Over the course of the series' first two seasons, Jessie and Tom (Nikesh Patel) struggle to figure out whether there's more to their connection than a casual hookup and then to navigate the unique complexities of their vastly different life experiences.

Starstruck's second season ended with the two reuniting in true grand romantic comedy fashion, involving both jumping into a pond and sharing a dramatic kiss in the middle of a friend's bachelor party. But as Season 3 opens, happily ever after seems to have come with an expiration date.

Two years have passed since the events of Season 2, and Tom and Jessie are no longer together. She's single, still working at the cinema, and questioning all her life choices now that many of her friends appear to be moving on ahead of her: getting married, buying houses, having kids. As for Tom...he appears to be engaged to someone else. Yet the pair are still undeniably drawn to one another. Are they still destined for love, or will Jessie find someone new?

Here's the Season 3 logline.

Still living in London and working at the local cinema, Jessie (Matafeo) explores a new single life after parting ways with film star Tom (Patel). Two years after the breakup, Jessie navigates the pressures of adulthood and is confronted with the consequences of her own choices as her friends move on to the next stages in their lives, while Jessie is left questioning what she is really looking for.

Alongside Matafeo and Patel, the Season 3 cast includes Emma Sidi (Stath Lets Flats) as Jessie's best friend Kate, Al Roberts (Flowers) as Ian, Joe Barnes (The Neighbour) as Joe, Nick Sampson (The Luminaries) as Steve, Alice Snedden (Educators) as Amelia and Lorne MacFayden (Vigil) as Liam. Minner Driver (Rosaline) is also back as Tom's agent Cath.

The third season is co-written by Matafeo, Snedden, and Sampson, while Matafeo and Snedden also make their directorial debuts.

All six episodes of Starstruck Season 3 will premiere on Thursday, September 28. Seasons 1 and 2 are currently available to stream on Max.
