Acorn TV

Popular crime drama My Life Is Murder Season 1 only just found its way to PBS Passport for new fans to discover the series, but for those who have been watching since it debuted in 2019, there's good news about new episodes. Season 4 finally has a release date in the U.S., with a planned release date to return to Acorn TV with a two-episode premiere in June 2024. However, the series won't just be returning to Acorn TV. As it becomes the new standard in the AMC Network universe has become, Acorn TV and BBC America are now co-premiering series, with two weekly episodes on both platforms when the new season begins. In most cases, this is helping supply BBC America with actual British content. In the case of My Life is Murder, it's supplying them with New Zealand content, but hey, close enough, I suppose.

Starring cult favorite Lucy Lawless (of Xena: Warrior Princess fame), My Life is Murder revolves around the fearless and unapologetic investigator Alexa Crowe, a detective who retired from her position in Australia's Victoria force at the beginning of Season 1 to return to her home country, only to discover you can take the crime solver out of the police force, but you can't stop her from going around solving crimes. Despite taking up baking, Crowe has simply started pulling double duty, arresting the bad guys in between the dough rising.

The logline for Season 4 promises that "this new season features a slew of puzzling cases ranging from homicidal hairdressers to wicked widows and brutal ballet to deadly soufflés." Personally, I am not here for deadly soufflés. Stab them through the heart and see which one of us collapses quicker.

Here is the Season 4 synopsis:

Eight new mysteries. Eight new worlds. Eight diabolical killers that only Alexa Crowe can catch. But this time, Alexa is bringing her friends and family along for the ride: Tech guru Madison is stepping up, contributing her considerable technical skills to Alexa's investigations, and the two of them have fallen into a comfortable mentor-mentee relationship. However, neither of them will ever agree on who is the mentor and who is the student. Cafe owner Reuben is stepping in. Brother Will is staying close. Detective Harry has her back, and cranky cat Chowder, can’t help complicating everything. Emboldened by the changes in her life, ready to revisit demons of the past, and excited to embrace her future, this year Alexa is even more of a force, determined to reveal the most carefully hidden secrets that crack the most bewildering cases. And, somehow, she and her fabulous whanau (chosen family) still have a bunch of fun along the way. Let the Auckland adventures begin again…

Lawless will once again be joined by Ebony Vagulans (The Furies) as Madison, Joe Naufahu (Game of Thrones) as Reuben, Martin Henderson (Grey’s Anatomy) as Will, Rawiri Jobe (Shortland Street) as Detective Harry, and Zeppelin as the much-put-upon Chowder.

The series’ executive producers are Rachel Antony, Claire Tonkin, Lucy Lawless, Harriet Crampton, Nicky Davies Williams, Pilar Perez for DCD Rights, and Don Klees for Acorn TV. My Life Is Murder is a Greenstone TV Production for TVNZ, Acorn TV, and DCD Rights Ltd., in association with Network 10.

My Life Is Murder Season 4 premieres with two episodes on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET, streaming on Acorn TV and airing on BBC America. The series will stream/air two episodes a week on Mondays through the middle of July.
