If March winds bring April showers, apparently, for PBS Passport, they also bring Acorns. Earlier this year, we reported that the original Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries would be streaming on PBS Passport for the first time starting April 1, 2024, with all of Season 1 arriving on the first of the month, with Season 2 to follow in May and then Season 3 in June. But that's not the only series that's been held behind the Acorn TV paywall for the past few years that will be making its PBS Passport debut come April 2024. The Lucy Lawless starrer My Life Is Murder, which recently released Season 4 in its native New Zealand, will also debut starting in April.

My Life is Murder is an Australian-New Zealand co-production that has a little bit of everything. It's a murder mystery of the week series, but it also has plenty of comedy moments and some family drama. The series started on New Zealand's Network 10 in Season 1 before switching to TVNZ 1 in the second season. Acorn TV picked up the show almost immediately upon its announcement since the popularity of Miss Fisher's popularity was its primary bread and butter at that moment. With Lucy Lawless' cult popularity in the states, it seemed a no-brainer.

Lawless stars in the series as private investigator Alexa Crowe, who left her job as a detective in Australia's Victoria Police Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) to be closer to her family in New Zealand. Her initial plan is to bake bread in her kitchen for the local cafe, but soon enough, she's solving crimes again.

Here's the first season's original synopsis

Finding herself back home in Aotearoa, New Zealand, for the first time in years, Alexa can’t help herself when she is asked to look into a bizarre unsolved murder. And then – like an itch she can’t help scratching – Alexa quickly finds herself investigating other murder mysteries in surprising, glamourous worlds filled with intriguing characters who are hiding dangerous and deadly secrets.

Lawless costars alongside Ebony Vagulans (The Furies) as partner Madison, Bernard Curry (Wentworth) as DI Kieran Hussey, for whom she consults in the first season (and who would eventually be replaced by Rawiri Jobe (Tatau) in later seasons), and Alex Andreas (The Tourist) as George Stathopoulos, owner of the Baristas Café. (He, too, would only be a major player in Season 1, replaced wholesale the next season with Joe Naufahu.) Season 1 also features Dilruk Jayasinha (Utopia) as Dr. Suresh, Kate McCartney (Deadloch) as Dawn Mason, the landlady, and Todd River as Captain Thunderbolt, Alexa's pet cat.

The series is partly executive produced by Lawless and Rachel Antony, Claire Tonkin, Harriet Crampton, Nicky Davies Williams, Pilar Perez, and Don Klees, and the producer is Mark Beesley.

My Life Is Murder Season 1 will premiere on PBS Passport for members with all episodes on Monday, April 1, 2024, with linear airings on local stations dependant on their schedule. As always, check your local listings and streaming services.
