The highly anticipated fourth season of cat-and-mouse thriller Killing Eve arrives in just a couple of months, and BBC America has given us a rather fantastic holiday present: The first real trailer for the final run of episodes. (Granted, it's only 30 seconds long, but at this point, any new footage feels like water in the desert.)

The series stars Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh as former MI-6 agent Eve Polastri and Emmy winner Jodie Comer as stylish assassin Villanelle. Over the course of the series, the two fiercely intelligent women face off all around Europe and a mutual but dangerous obsession develops. Season 3 ended with a series of events that finally forced both Eve and Villainelle to acknowledge the toxic bond they share and their mutual inability to let go of the twisted relationship between them.

Though the season's final shot saw the pair staring longingly at one another from opposite sides of London's iconic Tower Bridge, it sounds as though we'll see both women trying to move on as the series returns. Of course, we all know that's unlikely to stick for very long.  But if you were hoping for a happy ending for these crazy kids, well, it may not be in the cards. At least not if the Season 4 teaser trailer is anything to go by.

"People like us aren't made for happy lives. Or happy endings," Carolyn's (Fiona Shaw) voice intones over a few brief clips from the new season. Watch for yourselves below.

When Season 4 begins, we'll find all its main women in very different places. Following their face-off on the bridge, Eve will apparently find herself on a revenge mission, though against whom exactly is as yet unclear. Villanelle has embraced a new kind of community in her quest to shed her dark past and prove she can be something more than a monster. And former MI-6 boss Carolyn is now more determined than ever to track down the mysterious Twelve and uncover the person who ordered the kit that killed her son Kenny (Sean Delaney).

How the stories of these three women will ultimately intersect with one another's is anyone's guess. But, on the plus side, at least we know for sure that our favorite mismatched MI-6 agent and lady assassin find their way back to each other again to some degree - the teaser trailer shows the two of them having a rather awkward pseudo-date with a mobility scooter. (I realize that's probably not what's happening, but let a girl dream, okay?)

And though Season 4 will officially conclude the stories of Eve and Villanelle, it may not be the last we see of the Killing Eve universe. Apparently, AMC Networks and the series' producers, Sid Gentle Films, have been kicking around ideas for potential spin-offs, so keep your fingers crossed.

Killing Eve Season 4 will premiere Sunday, February 27 on BBC America (with early access available for AMC+ subscribers).
