Prime Video released the first batch of photos from its upcoming revenge thriller Wilderness, a series about a seemingly happy couple whose marriage falls apart when one learns the other is cheating—and decides to take payback into her own hands.

Based on the novel of the same name by B.E. Jones, the U.K. Original series follows the story of British couple Liv and Will, a pair who --- at least on the surface --- have it all. They've got a rock solid marriage. A glamourous new life in New York City far from their rural hometown about to begin. Their whole lives are ahead of them. Until she learns about his affair with a younger colleague.

Her heartbreak is quickly overtaken by fury. Enter the American road trip Liv’s fantasized about since she was little, from Monument Valley to the Grand Canyon, on through Yosemite, ending up with a hedonistic weekend in Las Vegas to blow off the dust and sweat. For Will, it’s a chance to make amends, for Liv, it’s suddenly become a very different kind of trip—one in which her husband will have to pass certain tests to save his own life. He's got two weeks, 1,500 miles, and three chances to make Liv he's truly sorry for what he's done. But if he can't....well, out in the American wilderness accidents happen all the time. It could be the perfect place to get revenge.

While out there, the couple bump into Will's colleague Cara (Benson), a young woman with a glittering career and an adoring boyfriend, Garth (Balfour). (Yes, this is a wild coincidence but let's go with it for the obvious "everyone's not making it out of this alive" vibes.)  Liv's best-laid plans are wrecked, and as the foursome go hiking together, Cara and Garth soon find themselves enmeshed in Will and Liv's lives in a way that will change the course of all their futures forever.

Described as a twisted love story, the series stars Anglophile favorite Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) as wronged wife Liv, Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Invisible Man) as her cheating husband Will, Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars) as Will's career-driven colleague Cara and Eric Balfour (The Offer) as her adoring boyfriend Garth. What follows is an epic adventure through several of America's most picturesque National Parks. It's a dream holiday...but one that quickly turns into a living nightmare,

“Working alongside Oliver, we will be exploring the boundaries of a relationship that is tested in unimaginable ways," Coleman said in a statement when the series was first announced.

The role of Liv is something of a departure for the actress. Best known for her roles in popular genre properties like Doctor Who and The Sandman or lavish period dramas like Victoria, she has rarely played characters this dark or overtly violent.  (Clara Oswald and/or Queen Victoria would never. But I guess Marie-Andrée Leclerc from The Serpent might.)

"Who doesn’t know someone who’s been cheated on? That gut punch on discovery, the trail of paranoia and suspicion it leaves behind, the difficulty of trusting again. It’s enough to tip anyone over the edge," series creator Marnie Dickens said in a statement. And that’s where we meet our heroine, Liv, as she’s lied to over and over by the man she loves. Of course, she wants revenge, and I, for one, hope she gets it.”

A thriller driven by a female team behind the scenes, Wilderness is created, written, and executive produced by Dickens. So Yong Kim (Love Song) and produced by Elizabeth Kilgariff. It is expected to premiere globally on Prime Video later this year, though no firm date has been set yet.

Lacy's love of British TV is embarrassingly extensive, but primarily centers around evangelizing all things Doctor Who, and watching as many period dramas as possible.

Digital media type by day, she also has a fairly useless degree in British medieval literature, and dearly loves to talk about dream poetry, liminality, and the medieval religious vision. (Sadly, that opportunity presents itself very infrequently.) York apologist, Ninth Doctor enthusiast, and unabashed Ravenclaw. Say hi on Threads or Blue Sky at @LacyMB.
