'The Crow Girl's First Images See Eve Myles on the Hunt for a Killer
Though the future of Paramount+ as a streamer is still somewhat up in the air — its parent company, Paramount Global, is in the process of being acquired by Skydance Media in a deal that will likely go through in early 2025 — that hasn't stopped its international arm from making new content. (Or getting rid of new content, given the sudden and abrupt cancelation of much of its original U.K. slate.) But while titles like One Night, The Doll Factory, and The Serial Killer's Wife have vanished from the U.K. version of the platform, new series are still being filmed, including the forthcoming psychological thriller The Crow Girl.
Based on the trilogy of novels by Erik Axl Sund (the pen name of Swedish writing duo Håkan Axlander Sundquist and Jerker Eriksson), follows the story of DCI Jeanette Kilburn (Eve Myles) and her partner DI Lou Stanley (Dougray Scott), who realize that they're on the hunt for a serial killer when a string of bodies of young men begin to turn up, all beaten and full of the anesthetic lidocaine.
As pressure to solve the case mounts, Kilburn decides to think outside the box — over her partner's objection. She enlists the help of psychotherapist Dr. Sophia Craven (Katherine Kelly), the same woman who happens to be treating her prime suspect in the case, seeking a fresh perspective on the murders. But as the killer creeps ever closer to home, Kilburn and her team find themselves in a race against time to untangle a complex web of secrets and corruption in time to save his next victim.
Here's the series' synopsis.
The Crow Girl begins with the gruesome discovery of a teenage boy’s body discarded in plain sight. Determined to find who is responsible, DCI Jeanette Kilburn joins forces with psychotherapist Sophia Crave to hunt the killer despite opposition from her superiors including confidant DI Lou Stanley.
The investigation takes them into a dangerous world of historic abuse and murder. Together they uncover a chain of shocking events involving the disappearance of children that have gone overlooked for decades, as well as evidence of police corruption. As the body count rises and the two women are dragged into the depths of the murders, an intimacy starts to form between them, and so begins a complex, twisted love story. All the while, the killer is inching ever closer to home.
Alongside Myles, Scott, and Kelly, the ensemble cast also includes Clara Rugaard (Black Mirror) as Victoria Burkeman, Victoria Hamilton (COBRA) as Superintendent Verity Pound, Elliot Edusah (Django) as DC Mike Dilliston, and Chloe Sweetlove (My Husband's Double Life) as Madeleine.
Milly Thomas (River City) adapted The Crow Girl for the screen. Directors Charles Martin (His Dark Materials) and Rebecca Rycroft (We Hunt Together) split helming duties, with Andy Mosse producing. Thomas is also an executive producer on the series, alongside Tony Wood and Richard Tulk-Hart, for Buccaneer Media.
The series will premiere on Paramount+ in the U.K. and Ireland early next year. A U.S. distributor and streaming details have yet to be confirmed.
