HBO Max has set the premiere date for its highly anticipated thriller The Tourist. The action-packed series, which stars Jamie Dornan as a British man stricken with amnesia in the Australian outback, is a co-production with British broadcaster BBC and Australian streamer Stan. It originally aired back in January on BBC One---to generally positive reviews, particularly of Dornan's performance ---and will cross the pond to stream in the U.S. in March.

In this six-episode series, Dornan plays a character only known as "The Man," who finds himself in the glowing red heart of the Australian outback being pursued by a vast tank truck trying to drive him off the road. An epic cat and mouse chase unfolds and The Man later wakes in the hospital, hurt, but somehow alive — and with no idea about who he is. With merciless figures from his past pursuing him, The Man’s search for answers propels him through the vast and unforgiving outback.

A story full of shocking, surprising, and often brutal twists, The Tourist is a story of self-discovery with a dark underbelly. Because as The Man begins to unravel the mystery of who he used to be, he'll have to decide who he wants to become. And, perhaps most importantly, will he be able to unlock the secrets of his identity before those who are trying to kill him catch up with him?

Watch the trailer for yourselves below.

Dornan is probably best known to American audiences for his role as Christian Grey in the film adaptation of the bestselling Fifty Shades of Grey novels and recently appeared in the Best Picture nominee Belfast. He also starred as serial killer Paul Spector in the grisly Netflix crime drama The Fall and briefly appeared as The Huntsman in the ABC fairytale drama Once Upon a Time. And the role of The Man looks like yet another intriguing entry into what is becoming a rather chaotically eclectic career. (I mean that in a good way, I promise.)

Other familiar faces in The Tourist include Danielle Macdonald (Unbelievable), Shalom Brune-Franklin (Roadkill), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (The Missing),  Alex Dimitriades (The Cry), and Damon Herriman (Mindhunter). (Herriman replaced Hugo Weaving who departed the production due to the sort of scheduling issues we've seen crop up repeatedly during production in the time of COVID.)

All six episodes of The Tourist will be available to stream on Thursday, March 3 on HBO Max.
