All good things must come to an end, and such is the case for supernatural romance A Discovery of Witches. The popular fantasy romance, which follows the story of forbidden love between a vampire and a witch, will return for its final run of episodes in January of 2022, joining an already overstuffed month for Anglophile-friendly content that includes the return of All Creatures Great and Small and the premiere of The Gilded Age.

Based on The Book of Life, the final novel in author Deborah Harkness' bestselling "All Souls Trilogy," Season 3 will see Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode) and Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer) return to the present day for a final battle with their enemies, their adventures in Elizabeth England, having seemingly unlocked Diana's true magical potential as a witch.

A Discovery of Witches Season 3 will premiere on Saturday, January 8, 2022, and The series' third season will largely follow the release format of its second, bowing on streaming platforms AMC+, Sundance Now, and Shudder before presumably coming to linear broadcast at some point later in 2022. (Season 2 aired on AMC roughly six months after its streaming debut, for reference.)

The new Season 3 teaser shows a Diana who looks more than ready to fight - to protect herself, the man she loves, and the hybrid vampire-witch baby she's about to have, which is seen as a “threat to the existing order” of existing supernatural beings and one which “must be extinguished.”

The official synopsis is fairly basic - and expected, given the events of last season - but it seems safe to assume that the final battle between Diana and those trying to tear her new family apart should be pretty epic. (Particularly given everything we've seen about her growing magical abilities.)

The epic conclusion of the acclaimed saga, which finds Matthew (Matthew Goode) and Diana (Teresa Palmer) returning from 1590 to present day and combating what they left behind.

In addition to Goode and Palmer, the show will see the bulk of its ensemble cast return for this final run of episodes, including Owen Teale (Game of Thrones), Alex Kingston (Doctor Who), Aiysha Hart (Line of Duty), Edward Bluemel (Killing Eve), Lindsay Duncan (The Leftovers), Trevor Eve (Waking the Dead), Gregg Chillin (Da Vinci's Demons), Adelle Leonce (Roadkill), Tanya Moodie (Sherlock), Daniel Ezra (The Missing), Steven Cree (Cobra), Malin Buska (The Girl King), Greg McHugh (Guilt), Jacob Ifan (Bang), and Paul Rhys (Victoria). New faces for Season 3 include Peter McDonald (Dublin Murders), Toby Regbo (Reign), Ivanno Jeremiah (Humans), Olivier Huband (I Hate Suzie), and Parker Sawyers (Succession).

The first two seasons of A Discovery of Witches are now streaming on AMC+, Shudder, and Sundance Now.
