Call The Midwife Season 10 has wrapped filming, but there's still no premiere date in the U.K.

Christmas is finally here, and we know this for sure because the Call the Midwife holiday special has arrived as well. And I feel I speak for all of you when I say “Blimey, did we need this right about now!”

This year’s holiday adventure is only the second time in the past five years where all the midwives have spent the Christmas season in Poplar. No globetrotting to South Africa or galivanting to the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.  Not even a road trip to the Mother House. It feels good to have all our ladies home for the holidays.

In the midst of a difficult year, one thing can still be counted upon: The comforting coziness of Call the Midwife. 

The Fifth Doctor is heading to Poplar for the holiday season - former Doctor Who star Peter Davison will be appearing in this year's Call the Midwife Christmas special.

As fans of the long-running period drama Call the Midwife, we have grown accustomed to the frequent comings and goings of our favorite characters. That being said, it never gets any easier to say goodbye when a cast member decides to leave the show. This time we must say our farewells to Jennifer Kirby who has portrayed Nurse Valerie Dyer for the past four seasons. 

British actress Jessica Raine is likely familiar to many PBS viewers from her roles on period drama Call the Midwife and mystery series Baptiste, but that's certainly not all she's done.  

Welcome to the final recap of Call the Midwife Season 9. A lot is packed into this episode. There’s the compulsory patient story, but this week we have a 2 for 1 situation. In addition, several overarching plotlines are resolved, some more hopefully than others but always with compassion and grace.

As the episode opens, November has arrived and the many of Poplar’s residents are making preparations for Bonfire Night. But others have more pressing issues on their minds.

On this Mother’s Day, the new episode of Call the Midwife delivers two mothers in challenging circumstances, a young doctor in over his head, one friend helping another and a midwife who’s very concerned about her grandmother. With so much to cover, let’s get straight to the recap, shall we?
