'Trigger Point' Commissioned for Season 3

Vicky McClure as Lana Washington in 'Trigger Point' Season 2

Vicky McClure as Lana Washington in 'Trigger Point' Season 2

BritBox

It's been about a month since Trigger Point Season 2 concluded on BritBox, the second season to stream on the niche British streaming service after Season 1 arrived in early 2024. Season 1 was imported directly from where it has been lost on Peacock since 2021; Season 2 aired in the U.K. in January 2024 to hit ratings and was held for six months so that Seasons 1 and 2 didn't stream back to back. However, the British producers waited until BritBox numbers were available to gauge U.S. interest before renewing the series; the ITV brass must have liked what they saw, considering how quickly the turnaround happened.

The good news is that Trigger Point seems to be filling the hole in the schedule once filled by Line of Duty after the BBC left it to lie after Season 6, with ITV reporting numbers in the  8.1m viewer range across the series. The bad news is that this means no rest for poor Lana Washington, played by Vicky McClure (Line of Duty), and little chance of her taking an early retirement while she still has all her limbs and get a far less high-pressure job, like slinging coffee at Starbucks.

The slightly worse news is that means someone is planning another terrorist attack on London that will require Lana to risk her life again. But at least it means Lana will get her found family back together at least one more time.

Here is the synopsis for the third season:

In this third series, explosives officer Lana Washington and her team are called to investigate a bomb threat that soon reveals itself to be the start of a sinister vendetta. Someone is targeting individuals, and demanding revenge. Working alongside the Police Counterterrorism Unit, the Bomb Disposal Squad race against time to find the bomber before they claim their next victim.

McClure returns for the show's third go-round, along with series regulars Eric Shango (Suspicion) as Danny, Nabil Elouahabi (Unforgotten) as Hassan "Hass" Rahim, Natalie Simpson (Outlander) as DSupt. Marianne Hamilton , and Maanuv Thiara (D.I. Ray) as DI Amar Batra. New cast and guest stars will be announced in due course.

Chris Brandon (Bloodlands) takes over as lead writer with Season 3 from original writer Daniel Brierley and Season 2's Simon Ashdown. Season 2 director Audrey Cooke returns for the new seasons and splits helming duties with Jamie Donoghue (A Discovery of Witches); the series producer is Kristian Dench. Brandon and McClure executive produce alongside Jed Mercurio, Daniel Walker, and Jessica Sharkey.

Trigger Point Season 3 is expected in late 2025/early 2026 on ITV in the U.K. and BritBox in the U.S.
