Outlander fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Though the original series’ journey is set to come to a close in short order — its final season will likely begin airing before the end of the year — the larger franchise built around the period romance seems to be thriving. The prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood isn’t set to premiere until August, but it has already secured a second-season order. Production on Season 2 is now officially underway in Scotland, on the same stages where Outlander filmed for the past decade.

The series depicts the love stories of the parents of the flagship series’ primary protagonists, told across dual timelines set in both 18th-century Scotland and World War I-era England. In one, we follow Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, whose romance we’re at least slightly familiar with thanks to Claire’s time at Castle Leoch back in Outlander’s first season. Fans know far less about the relationship between Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, merely that they died in a car accident when their daughter was just five years old.

“The passion and talent our cast and crew have poured into Outlander: Blood of My Blood has been extraordinary, and we’re thrilled to continue these epic love stories in Season Two,” series showrunner Matthew B. Roberts said in a statement. “Just as audiences fell in love with Jamie and Claire, we hope viewers will be enamored by these new couples when they meet them this summer.”

Here's the series' description.

From the battlefields of World War I to the rugged Highlands of 18th century Scotland, two fated love stories must defy the forces that seek to tear them apart, intersecting in surprising and unforeseen ways.

The series’ leading quartet features Hermione Corfield (We Hunt Together) as Julia, Jeremy Irvine (Dalgliesh) as Henry, Harriet Slater (Belgravia: The Next Chapter) as Ellen, and Jamie Roy (Condor’s Nest) as Brian. The extended cast includes characters who played key roles back in Outlander Season 1 when the show focused more on clan politics. Rory Alexander (Pistol) is Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser, Sally Messham (Blitz) is Mrs. Fitz, Seamus McLean Ross (Payback) is Colum MacKenzie, Sam Retford (All Creatures Great & Small) is Dougal MacKenzie, Sadhbh Malin (Conversations with Friends) is Jocasta Cameron, Conor MacNeill (The Tourist) is legal advisor Ned Gowan, and Tony Curran (Mary & George) is Brian’s father, Simon Fraser, Lord Lovet.

“The world of Outlander has captivated audiences with its sweeping storytelling and unforgettable characters. With Blood of My Blood, we’ve expanded the universe in a way that honors the original, while charting bold new territory,” Kathryn Busby, President of Programming, Starz, said. “Fans—longtime and new—will be drawn to the powerful love stories at the heart of this next chapter, and we’re proud to continue building on the franchise’s legacy with Matt and our longtime partners at Sony, who have worked tirelessly to make Outlander the global phenomenon it has become.”

Roberts is the series showrunner and an executive producer alongside Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, and Jim Kohlberg.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood will premiere Friday, August 8, 2025. New episodes will air weekly on Fridays at 8:00 pm ET/PT on Starz in the U.S. and at 9:00 pm ET/PT in Canada.
