Eagle Eye Drama

The Couple Next Door hasn't moved into its American address quite yet, but in the U.K., more neighbors are on the way. Channel 4, which produces the Eagle Eye Drama series, has announced it has become its biggest streaming launch to date, with over one million views in the first seven days. The network isn't going to argue with success either and has renewed the series for a second season. However, fans of Season 1's leads Sam Heughan (Outlander),  Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark), Jessica De Gouw (Vienna Blood), and Alfred Enoch (The Critic) will want to hold their celebrations. The decision to renew comes with a caveat that future installments will be an anthology series featuring a new foursome whose exploits are connected via living near Alan, the nosy neighbor played by Hugh Dennis (Fleabag).

The married couple who will find themselves entangled in the infamous cul-de-sac feature Sam Palladio (Catherine the Great) and Annabel Scholey (The Sixth Commandment) as Jacob and Charlotte Roberts. Unlike Season 1, their temptations will not be another married couple, but two singles who enter their lives, Aggy K Adams (The Witcher) as Mia, Jacob's co-worker who rents the house next to them and befriends Alan, and Sendhil Ramamurthy (Elementary) as Leo, who happens to be Charlotte's one-who-got-away.

Like Season 1, this is expected to be a super dark and sexy series, taking the claustrophobic nature of bedroom communities to its logical end. Season 1 was based on the Dutch series New Neighbours (The Swingers), which streams on Walter Presents U.K. (Somehow, PBS Passport doesn't have it, hmmm.) Season 2 will pull from the Scandi noir drama Fatal Injections (Dopamin), currently streaming on MHz Choice.

Here is the synopsis for Season 2:

The second series will see viewers venture back into the claustrophobic world of the cul-de-sac and explore the fallout of taking your fantasies and making them a reality. Brilliant heart surgeon Charlotte Roberts and her husband, consultant anaesthetist Jacob are a high-flying busy married couple. But things soon turn upside down when their mysterious new hospital colleague Mia rents out the house next door. Working her way into Charlotte and Jacob’s confidence and eventually their bed, Mia also quickly befriends cul-de-sac outcast Alan whilst Charlotte has to handle the reappearance of past flame Leo. However, it’s not long before Mia’s past comes back to haunt her, leading Charlotte and Jacob to question who she really is, especially when patients at the hospital mysteriously start dying. But one thing is clear: giving in to desires can have deadly consequences…

Season 1 is supposed to come to Starz sometime in early 2025; here's the synopsis for it if you need a reminder:

When Evie and Pete move into an upscale neighborhood, they find themselves in a world of curtain twitching and status anxiety. But soon find friendship in the shape of the couple next door, alpha traffic cop Danny and his wife, glamorous yoga instructor Becka. As time goes on, these two couples get increasingly close to each other and one fateful night, become sexually entangled in a way that will change their lives forever.

Season 1 stars Heughan, Tomlinson, Enoch, De Gouw, Dennis, and Kate Robbins (Unforgotten). Season 2 has not announced any cast beyond the four new leads of Palladio, Scholey, Adams, and Ramamurthy, with Dennis' character returning for continuity. Filming is expected to take place in. 2025, with more additions as that date gets closer. Series creator David Allison (Marcella) returns to pen Season 2, with director Dries Vos (Suspect) helming the six-part series. Jo McGrath, and Walter Iuzzolino serve as executive producers for Eagle Eye Drama, and Jen Burnet is the producer.

The Couple Next Door Season 1 is expected to premiere on Starz in the first half of 2025; Season 2 will probably be released in 2026.
