After six months of pondering what was up with The Madame Blanc Mysteries, AMC Networks and Acorn TV have finally announced a Season 4 premiere date. Fans will recall that Acorn TV, the leading producer of the series alongside the U.K.'s Channel 5, had traditionally treated the series the same way PBS does Call The Midwife with a Christmas Special that streamed on Acorn TV within days of it airing in the U.K., and then debuting the rest of the season in February/March directly following the season's finale premiering overseas. However, since the brand refresh in the spring of 2024, Acorn TV has been experimenting with the schedule, which, it turns out, includes Madame Blanc moving wholesale to summer.

There are differing schools of thought about handling hit shows, especially when they are co-productions that air overseas first, like so many of Acorn TV and BritBox shows. Doctor Who goes for the "no one sees it until everyone does" method of debuting simultaneously, known as "day-and-date." Then there's the Downton Abbey method, where the entire show airs in the U.K. and everyone pretends there isn't an open and free internet filled with photos and spoilers for months until it debuts in America in what is deemed the best spot for U.S. viewership ratings. Call the Midwife splits the difference, day-and-dating the Christmas special and then holding the rest for a prime viewership slot.

Some shows work better using one method over the other; All Creatures Great & Small, for example, thrives on the Downton method, whereas The Great British Baking Show didn't hit U.S. phenomenon levels until Netflix switched it to a variation on "day-and-date." Acorn TV had been doing relatively well with Madame Blanc splitting the difference. However, it seems the streaming service believes it may do better as a summertime escapist show, and held the entire season (including the Christmas special) until July.

Here's the fourth season's synopsis, which isn't very detailed, mostly because the mysteries matter less than the relationships between the characters.

The fourth season of The Madame Blanc Mysteries returns to the wonderful world of Sainte Victoire, packed with unusual antiques and objéts d’art, murder, mystery, sunshine, and laughter. Jean White is navigating a fledgling romance with her sidekick, Dom Hayes. Get ready for a brand-new season packed with sun-drenched murder mysteries, a budding romance, and… two 75-year-old hotties on jet skis!

Series creator Sally Lindsay (Cold Call) will once again lead the series as the titular Jean White, aka "Madame Blanc," with Steve Edge (Murder They Hope) as her love interest/boyfriend, Dom Hayes, and Tony Robinson (Black Adder) as Dom’s Uncle Patrick. Co-writer Sue Vincent (Shameless) also returns as mechanic Gloria Beaushaw with Paul Chuckle (Elliott) as her dad, Trevor Beaushaw. The ensemble is rounded out by Robin Askwith (Strike) and Sue Holderness (Only Fools and Horses) as hoteliers Jeremy and Judith Lloyd James, and Alex Gaumond (Derry Girls) as Chief of Police André Caron.

Guest stars for Season 4 include Danny Hatchard (Ridley Road), Graeme Hawley (Ridley), Edward MacLiam (Endeavour), Samantha Power (Ackley Bridge), Charlie Condou (Unforgotten), Lorraine Burroughs (Sweetpea), and Richard Blackwood (Typical).

As always, Lindsay and Vincent co-wrote all seven episodes, with director Dermot Boyd helming all installments, which Jake Rollins produced.  Lindsay and Caroline Roberts-Cherry serve as executive producers for Saffron Cherry, with Mike Benson and Andy Morgan for Clapperboard.
