'Such Brave Girls' Delivers a Season 2 Sneak Peek for Mother's Day

Such Brave Girls was a risky series for the BBC to commission in 2022. It was the debut series by comedian Kat Sadler, who had never starred in her own series, let alone one she was spearheading, writing, and executive producing. Moreover, the subject matter — about a deeply dysfunctional family, told from the perspective of one of the daughters from the depths of a mental health crisis already in progress — was drawn from Sadler's personal breakdown during the pandemic, from which she had only recently emerged. However, audiences were apparently right there with her, because the series was a critical darling and a BBC Three hit, landing a second season.

Since the BBC and Hulu announced in May 2024 that the series would return for another set of episodes, there hasn't been much news about Such Brave Girls' follow-up, no additions for the new season, or guest cast announcements. But that year-long silence was finally broken on Mother's Day.

Well, Mother's Day U.S.*, suggesting that this demand for a teaser preview either came from the American side of the co-production or the U.K. side just thought it was being super clever. Check out the clip.

(*Mother's Day, for the record, does not occur in May in the U.K.. In case you didn't know, it's a Christian celebration — remember, the U.K. is an Anglican country! — celebrated in March, and is one of the Lent-adjacent stops along the road to Easter.)

There's still no synopsis for the series second season, all we have is what's posted along with the YouTube clip:

Josie and Billie are back, and these very brave girls have a Mother’s Day surprise up their sleeve! Season 2 of the critically acclaimed series, Such Brave Girls, is coming soon.

For Season 2, the only returnees confirmed so far are Sadler as Josie, her real-life sister Lizzie Davidson as her on-screen sister Billie, and Louise Brealey (Sherlock) as their mum Deb. Other returnees or additions will be announced in due course.

Sadler will once again pen all episodes, and director Simon Bird is expected to return to helm at least some of the second season, with Catherine Gosling Fuller once again producing. Sadler executive produces with Jack Bayles and Phil Clarke in association with A24.

Such Brave Girls Season 2 will come to the BBC and Hulu in 2025.
