Watch the First Trailer for Red Dwarf X!

Smeg-heads, rejoice the first trailer for the highly-anticipated new series of Red Dwarf is here! The popular sci-fi comedy will be back this fall for a six-episode run, complete with original cast members Robert Llewellyn, Craig Charles, Chris Barrie and Danny John-Jules on board.

Red Dwarf will air on UK network Dave, which was also behind the comedy’s three-part Back to Earth special that aired in 2009. (Prior to that, the sci-fi seires aired on the BBC.) No word on whether we’ll see this air at some point in the States, but here’s hoping!

While this first trailer is a bit on the “short and sweet” side – clocking in at just under a minute – but it’s still got a couple of funny gags, including Lister managing to lose Rimmer in a poker game.

I’m still working my way through Red Dwarf, so I don’t know that I’m entirely prepared to fully judge this yet, though my gut says it looks entertaining. Will be interested to see what others think of it.

  • New Trailer for Red Dwarf X and a UK Airdate!

    Big news for those that love great comedy: a new teaser for the upcoming tenth series of Red Dwarf has made its way online – and we finally have launch date for the new episodes too. The sci-fi favorite will officially be back starting October 4! UK network Dave announced the series’ official premiere date this week, using a…quite innovative social media promotion involving a helium balloon with a curry and a can of lager attached to it being launched into space. (Seriously. I’m not making that up. You can actually watch video of it on the Dave website.)

    The tenth series will feature the first new episodes of Red Dwarf on TV since the Back to Earth mini-series in 2009. And if you don’t count that – technically it’s not a full series after all – the sci-fi comedy’s been off the air since 1993! (And here I thought Sherlock fans had it bad with the waiting…..)

  • Coming Soon to WETA UK: Red Dwarf

    Up next in our series of little mini-introductions to some of the great programming you can expect to see on WETA UK, the cult classic science fiction comedy Red Dwarf. The franchise primarily comprises eight series plus a smaller ninth mini-series type thing named Back to Earth. Red Dwarf originally aired on BBC Two between 1988 and 1999 and then on Dave in 2009. The show has had such enduring popularity that a tenth series was recently commissioned and is set to air on Dave later this year, actually.

    This is actually one of the WETA UK programs that I personally am most excited about, because I’ve never seen it and everyone I know that’s watched it just loves it to death. I tend to enjoy sci-fi, as a rule, and while I am slightly…well, the concept seems very hard to explain/get your head around, but I must admit I’m intrigued.
