PBS Previews ‘Indian Summers’, Premiering on Masterpiece in September
The series has something of a Downton Abbey meets Jewel in the Crown vibe – the promos indicate that there are plenty of class issues, ill-advised romantic entanglements, beautiful sets and incredibly gorgeous costumes to go around.
PBS has released a new trailer that not only features Walters at her sort of overdramatic, fabulous best, but also adds in a bit more context than some of the initial British promos – you know for those of us who aren’t quite as familiar with this time period and/or location in history.

Important fact to remember, though: Though this series is described as being set in the “twilight” of British colonial rule, India did not achieve independence until 1947, which is fifteen years after Indian Summers is set. So, no matter what happens this season – which apparently includes some combination of secrets, promises, politics, power, sex and love, just to name a few things – it’s likely that there will still be plenty of story to go around in future installments. Possibly several future installments. (The drama has already been renewed for a second season, and I guess we’ll see where we go from there.)
If you’re curious about the show, this clip, in which the series’ producers and several cast members explain the story a bit further, is a must-watch:

Indian Summers begins on Masterpiece on September 27. Who’s planning to tune in? (I haven’t made a final call about recapping this yet, so if you’re particularly interested, now’s the time to make your pitch!)
