A New 'Doctor Who' Era Has Begun: Your First Official Look at the Twelfth Doctor
Fans around the world have been eagerly anticipating the reveal of Capaldi’s official Twelve costume, as the Doctor’s wardrobe tends to say quite about about the state of the character. (For example: Compare Christopher Eccleston’s leather jacket ensemble as Nine with David Tennant’s flashy Ten coat.)
Rejoice - the wait is finally over. The BBC released the first official photo of Twelve’s new look today, and it’s rather fantastic. Though, sadly, it looks like we’ve officially said goodbye to bowties and fezzes for the time being.
Get a look below.
The look was created by Doctor Who costume designer Howard Burden, and is comprised of a dark blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a white shirt as well as black Dr. Marten shoes.
It’s a very structured look, which is kind of fun, and a nice change after the “Raggedy Doctor” Smith style. It also looks both a little bit period and a little bit posh, and let’s all hope that jacket manages to swish about somehow. It's also recalls Jon Pertwee's Doctor a bit, which is lovely.
Also, it certainly looks like Twelve will be a fan of dramatic hand gestures.
Commenting on his costume, Capaldi said ““He's woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord.”
Well, allrighty then.
