More Parade's End Goodies: HBO Releases New Trailer, Cast Conversations

Premium cable network HBO has released some more goodies for those of us who are eagerly anticipating the American broadcast of Parade’s End, starring Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch alongside Rebecca Hall.

Am I spamming you guys about Parade’s End? I feel like I might be. But, I so want everyone to watch it and get swoony with me and I’ve been swooning in a fairly limited bubble since October so my basic feeling on this topic is hurry up, HBO! The five-part drama premieres on February 26 and will air over three consecutive nights.

However, HBO apparently approves of my at least being quasi-spammy about it, as they keep releasing new things for us all to look at, including a new trailer and a cast conversations clip where the stars and production team discuss the project. 

Based on Ford Madox Ford’s quartet of novels, the series follows the story of English aristocrat Christopher Tietjens (Cumberbatch) and his wife Sylvia (Hall) from the last years of the Edwardian era through the end of the First World War.

Now for the real news: There’s a new trailer! It’s so pretty! Love the atmosphere they manage to infuse these spots with. Very swoony and romantic, all of which I approve of immensely. 

Cumberbatch and Hall discuss their characters and the story of Parade’s End, alone with co-star Adelaide Clemens, director Susanna White and writer Sir Tom Stoppard. There’s also plenty of clips in this bit as well, if that’s really what you’re here for. (No judgment.) 

Soooooo, since Downton will be over by this point – any interest in a recap series for those of you who don’t have HBO and/or just enjoy me sort of swooning and snarking at things? Am considering it, if there’d be interest.

As I’ve said before, in a lot of ways, Parade’s End is Downton Abbey’s dark twin – it’s not what I would call fun for the most part (it certainly lacks the soapy self-awareness), but it’s hard to shake. I don’t even know if I liked it, but I’m still thinking about it, which I think is a good thing.

    Finally! Critically acclaimed BBC series Parade’s End has at long last gotten an American airdate!

    The five-part drama is written by English playwright Sir Tom Stoppard (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Arcadia) and stars Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch alongside The Town’s Rebecca Hall, with Adelaide Clemens, Miranda Richardson, Rupert Everett, Janet McTeer, Freddie Fox and more along for the ride. The drama aired in the UK last Fall and made it onto several critics’ “Best of 2012” television lists (including mine) at the end of the year.

Even though this news was just announced at the Winter session of the Television Critics Association press tour, HBO has already released a teaser trailer for the series and it’s lovely.   • Get Your First Look at Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch in Parade’s End

    The first trailer for BBC Two’s sumptuous-looking costume drama Parade’s End starring Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch and The Town’s Rebecca Hall has been released. Finally. The whole idea of Cumberbatch + period drama + romantic angst is basically my personal kryptonite, so I’ve pretty much been refreshing my Google feeds daily for any information about this upcoming series. And in my obviously quite biased opinion, this looks fantastic. Lush and romantic and full of class issues, all the sorts of things that those of us who love costume drama tend to crave.

    The five-part miniseries is written by no less than Sir Tom Stoppard (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Arcadia) and is based on a series of four novels by Ford Madox Ford. Parade’s End will follow the story of English aristocrat Christopher Tietjens (Cumberbatch) and his wife Sylvia (Hall) from the last years of the Edwardian era through the end of the First World War.
