'Last Tango in Halifax' Series 2 Comes to PBS Stations in June
The news was announced at last week’s winter installment of the Television Critics Association Press Tour, a showcase for networks to highlight upcoming programming over the next few months. The drama will return to its 8pm timeslot on Sunday nights, and Series 2 will be comprised of six new episodes.
The series stars Sir Derek Jacobi and Anne Reid as a couple who find a second chance at love with one another, sixty years after they first met. Nicola Walker and Sarah Lancashire star as the couple’s respective daughters, who must also deal with Series 1 concluded with a cliffhanger on several fronts, as Alan suffered a serious heart attack, leaving the couple’s nuptials in doubt and fans questioning whether Celia might have to go through losing the love of her life – again.
Series 2 picks up right where we left off - Having come so close to losing each other forever thanks to Alan’s near fatal heart attack, he and Celia decide to have a romantic secret wedding as soon as possible. But how will their respective daughters react? The uptight Caroline and rebellious Gillian are discovering they actually quite like each other, however Gillian’s need to own up to her night with Caroline’s ex-husband John could jeopardize the soon-to-be stepsisters’ fledgling friendship. As secrets from the past come tumbling out and family members adjust to changing relationships, can Alan and Celia find the long-awaited happiness they deserve?
“Last Tango in Halifax captured the hearts of millions of viewers,” said Beth Hoppe, Chief Programming Executive and General Manager, General Audience Programming at PBS. “We are excited to continue the love story between Alan and Celia and work with Red Production and the BBC on an exciting second season.”

Last Tango in Halifax has already been renewed for a third season by the BBC, which should go into production this Winter with an eye to a Fall 2014 UK transmission. No word on what that means for a US airdate for that season, but since Series 2 was moved up to June (Series 1 aired in September last year), there’s hope that a US broadcast might inch closer to its UK counterpart again. Fingers crossed.
Anyway – are you looking forward to seeing Series 2 of Halifax in June?
