It’s Official: ‘Mr Selfridge’ Renewed for Series 3
Selfridge has officially gotten the green light for a third season, despite the fact that the ITV drama has struggled a bit in the ratings opposite the BBC’s Sunday night adventure drama The Musketeers. It’s still averaging around six million viewers a week, however, which is probably why it scored a renewal. Well, that and the fact that it’s also been quite successful with international audiences, particularly here in the US on Masterpiece.
''We're delighted to commission a third series of 'Mr Selfridge',” said ITV Head of Drama Steve November in a press release. “It's been very pleasing to see how the audience have reacted to 'Mr Selfridge' and the vibrant and inspirational world the production team have created.''
The third season will once again be comprised of ten episodes. The drama was created Andrew Davies and stars Jeremy Piven as the flamboyant department store head alongside an ensemble cast featuring Katherine Kelly, Amanda Abbington, Aisling Loftus, Gregory, Fitoussi, Polly Walker and Samuel West. Kate Brooke - most notably of Ice Cream Girls and Making of a Lady – returns as lead writer, working alongside Kate O’Riordan and Helen Raynor.
And apparently we can expect big things from Series 3. "We have some surprises in store for an audience in this third series,” says ITV executive producer Kate Lewis. “You only have to walk down Oxford Street today to know that Selfridges department store continued to be successful, but for its founder, Harry Selfridge, things were very different.”
"His story was a rollercoaster ride that ended rather tragically. We pick up series three in 1919, the point at which his life really begins to unravel."
