Teenage crime-solving is back on the (streaming) menu with our first look at the highly anticipated second season of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. The BBC series, which streams on Netflix here in the U.S., is based on popular author Holly Jackson's bestselling series of YA novels. and follows the story of a young true crime enthusiast who becomes convinced her small town's most famous death isn't as open and shut as everyone seems to think it is. Determined to find the truth, she takes matters into her own hands and vows to prove her childhood friend isn't the killer so many think he is.
At the end of Season 1, both Pip and her Buckinghamshire town were left reeling by the uncomfortable truths revealed in the Andie Bell case. Facing some big life questions of her own — as well as some unresolved romantic issues with her investigative partner Ravi — she's determined to leave the mystery-solving business behind. But despite her best efforts, it seems as though the case of Andie's killer isn't quite done with her yet.
Season 2 will adapt Good Girl, Bad Blood, the second installment in Jackson's book series, and its story will see Pip forced to face the past even as she's confronted with a new mystery to solve when a friend's brother goes missing.
(Some might ask how such a small English town has so many strange disappearances and deaths, but as anyone who watches any sort of British mystery or crime series can tell you, it's basically par for the course.)
Here's the Season 2 synopsis.
After solving the Andie Bell case Pip’s world has been transformed by her actions, and not always for the better. Pip is determined to fix the fallout - and stay away from any more investigations. But as Max Hastings’ trial approaches, Connor’s brother Jamie suddenly disappears and Pip finds herself in a race against time to find him. This new mystery will take Pip to unexpected places as she struggles with the idea of justice, straying even further from the 'good girl' she once was.
Wednesday breakout Emma Myers will reprise her role as Pip, alongside Zain Iqbal (All Crazy Random) as Ravi. Other returning Season 1 cast members include Henry Ashton (My Lady Jane), Yali Topol Margalith (The Tattooist of Auschwitz), Asha Banks (My Fault: London), and Jude Morgan-Collie (Here We Go).
Season 2 will also introduce several new faces to the cast, including a trio of fan-favorite characters. First up, there’s Misia Butler (Kaos) as Stanley Forbes, a figure who exists on the fringes of the investigation, but whose connections run deeper than they seem. Eden Hambelton Davies (Tell Me Everything) plays Jamie Reynolds, Connor’s brother, a quiet but popular local musician whose sudden disappearance sends shockwaves throughout the community, and Jack Rowan (MobLand) is Charlie Green, Pip’s new neighbor who finds himself drawn into the heart of the mystery unraveling in Little Kilton.
Other new faces in Season 2 are Anna Brindle (Wild Cherry), Peter Sullivan (Around the World in 80 Days), Freddie Thorp (A Discovery of Witches), Lu Corfield (The Crow Girl), Stephanie Street (Joan), and newcomer Freddie England.
“I'm so excited to welcome some new and incredibly talented actors into the AGGGTM family," Jackson said in a statement. "Eden is sensational as our Jamie, his presence felt throughout, even though he’s missing. Misia is the perfect Stanley Forbes, delivering a truly heart-wrenching performance. And Jack as Charlie Green is simply extraordinary: I had to stand and clap at the monitors. Just you wait.”
The show’s first outing was a hit on both sides of the pond. In the U.K., Season 1 rapidly became one of BBC iPlayer’s most-watched titles among 16-24 year olds following its summer 2024 debut and BBC Three’s highest-rated drama since its relaunch. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder subsequently premiered on Netflix that August, debuting at No. 1 on its Global Top 10 TV list. No matter where you live, no one can get enough of teens solving crimes.
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder has been adapted for the screen by Poppy Cogan, who once again returns to pen episodes for Season 2 alongside author Holly Jackson. Directors Asim Abbasi and Jill Robertson split helming duties across the second season's six episodes, taking over from the Season 1 directing team of Tom Vaughn and Dolly Wells. Sophie Klein produces.
Cogan and Jackson executive produce alongside Matthew Read, Simon Crawford Collins, & Frith Tiplady for Moonage Pictures and Lucy Richer, Danielle Scott-Haughton & Katherine Bond for the BBC. BBC Studios, which brokered the co-production deals with Netflix and ZDFneo, is handling global sales.
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder Season 2 does not yet have a release date for either side of the pond, but we expect to to debut sometime in the 2025-2026 TV season.
