British network Channel 4 has released the first batch of images from its forthcoming thriller In Flight, a high-stakes, high-octane drama about a flight attendant whose life and career are thrown into chaos when she’s blackmailed into smuggling drugs through her job after her son is arrested. The six-part series is set to join the ranks of other notable TV thrillers depicting the sudden dangers of flying the friendly skies —see also: Red Eye and Hijack — which are seemingly everywhere these days. (Both the aforementioned dramas are already working on second seasons.)
In Flight stars Anglophile favorite Katherine Kelly (Mr Bates vs the Post Office) as Jo Conran, a single mother and flight attendant whose life and career are thrown into chaos after her son is imprisoned in Bulgaria for a murder he swears he didn’t commit. When she’s approached by a gang who somehow knows all about her son’s situation, she’s blackmailed into helping them move drug shipments using her job as an airline hostess as cover. Forced into a world of corrupt cops, hired killers, and unknown dangers to keep her child alive, she must carry out the orders of the mysterious and dangerous Cormac (Stuart Martin) while desperately trying to find a way out of her (potentially deadly) predicament. But no matter how far she finds herself from her old life, she’ll do anything to keep her son alive.
Set against the fast-paced, high-pressure backdrop of international air travel, In Flight follows Jo’s relentless quest to protect her family while entangled in a dangerous criminal syndicate.
Here's the series synopsis.

Alongside Kelly and Martin, In Flight also stars Ashley Thomas (The Serpent Queen) as Dom, a customs officer at a central London airport who also happens to be Jo's ex-boyfriend. The series cast also includes Bronagh Waugh (Ridley) as Melanie, Henry Cadby (Everything Now) as Sonny, Corinna Brown (Heartstopper) as Kayla, and Ambreen Razia (Starstruck) as Zara.
Mike Walden (Whitstable Pearl) and Adam Randall (Slow Horses) co-wrote the six-part drama, which Chris Baugh (Wreck) directed. “In Flight is our spin on the noir genre, a high-stakes, stylish, romantic thriller with iconic characters and nerve-shredding action,” the pair said when the series was announced. “Channel 4 is the perfect home for our story, and we’re so excited to be collaborating with such a brilliant team. Jo is a character close to our hearts. She is an ordinary woman facing extraordinary odds. We can’t wait for audiences to meet her.”
The series is produced by Buccaneer Media (The Crow Girl). Executive producers include Anna Burns, Tony Wood, and Richard Tulk-Hart for Buccaneer, Rebecca Dundon and Simon Judd for Fremantle, as well as Kelly, Walden, Randall, and Baugh. Brendan Mullin is the producer, with Gary Davy as the Casting Director.
In Flight doesn't yet have a premiere date or an American distributor.
