Hulu has quietly become the streaming home of several high-quality British comedies that most American viewers just haven't managed to discover yet, despite those of us in the media yelling about them fairly regularly. (See also: Comedies like Extraordinary, Am I Being Unreasonable?, and Such Brave Girls.) But filming on the second season of one of the streamer's most underrated gems has just kicked off, meaning that now is the time for TV fans everywhere to start finally catching up.

Offbeat comedy Dinosaur follows the story of Nina, an autistic woman in her 30s who lives with her sister Evie in Glasgow. Happy in the established routine of both her life and their relationship, things are thrown into chaos when Evie not only gets a new boyfriend, but also agrees to marry him after just six weeks of dating. Forced to reconcile herself to her sister's impulsive decision, Nina must grapple with what this change means for her own life and vows to discover what she wants for herself.

Though most of the plot details are still under wraps, we do know that Season 2 will see Nina get a new love interest of her own. Played by Hyoie O'Grady (Sherlock & Daughter), this new arrival will shake things up and bring even more surprises to her changing world.

The series' first season was widely praised for its authentic representation of life with autism and its charming new twist on an age-old coming-of-age formula, winning Best Scripted Comedy at the 2024 RTS Scotland Awards and the Writer TV/Film Award and Audience Award at the 2024 Scottish BAFTAs.

Here's the Season 1 synopsis.

Dinosaur follows Nina, an autistic woman in her 30s who adored her life living with her sister and best friend Evie. However, when Evie rushed into an engagement after only six weeks and made Nina her maid of honour, Nina was floored. Forced to reconcile with her sister’s impulsive decision, Nina grappled with what this new challenge meant, which led to a surprising journey of self-discovery, saw her explore her own love interest and consider a move away from her hometown for a job promotion. At its core, Dinosaur is a series about sisterhood, love, friendship and being yourself, no matter how uncomfortable that might make others.

Series stars Ashley Storrie (Romance & Adventure) and Kat Ronney (McDonald & Dodds) are both set to return for Season 2, along with the rest of the original cast. The series' ensmelble icludes David Carlyle (It’s A Sin), Danny Ashok (Roadkill), Greg Hemphill (Still Game), Sabrina Sandhu (Dodger), Ben Rufus Green (Trying), Jim Kitson (Vera), Sally Howitt (River City), Kate Dickie (Game of Thrones), and Sanjeev Kohli (The Madame Blanc Mysteries).

Dinosaur is a Two Brothers Pictures production for Hulu and BBC Scotland, BBC iPlayer, and BBC Three, produced in association with All3Media International. The series is based on an original idea by Matilda Curtis, the daughter of director and film producer Simon Curtis and Downton Abbey star Elizabeth McGovern, and co-created with Storrie. Niamh McKeown is set to direct the six episode second season, with Brian Coffey producing. Executive producers include Sarah Hammond, Harry Williams, Jack Williams, and Katie Churchill, and BBC Commissioning Editors are Emma Lawson and Gavin Smith.

Filming is currently underway in Glasgow, but there's no release date as yet on either side of the pond.

Lacy's love of British TV is embarrassingly extensive, but primarily centers around evangelizing all things Doctor Who, and watching as many period dramas as possible.

Digital media type by day, she also has a fairly useless degree in British medieval literature, and dearly loves to talk about dream poetry, liminality, and the medieval religious vision.
