Hulu has acquired the Scottish comedy Dinosaur, a quirky coming-of-age series that explores the moments of change we experience in various relationships in our lives, including sisterhood, friendship, and romance. Slated for an April release, the six-part series will join Hulu's impressive collection of offbeat and often wildly underrated U.K. comedies, including recent shows like Extraordinary, Am I Being Unreasonable? and Such Brave Girls.

Set in Glasgow, Dinosaur is based on an original idea from writer Matilda Curtis, the daughter of director and film producer Simon Curtis and Downton Abbey star Elizabeth McGovern. It stars Ashley Storrie (Romance & Adventure) and Kat Ronney (McDonald & Dodds) as Nina and Evie, two sisters and best friends who live with one another. But the carefully planned order of Nina's life is turned upside down when Evie rushes into an engagement just six weeks after meeting her current boyfriend and asks her sister to be her maid of honor at the wedding.

As an autistic thirtysomething woman, Nina struggles to accept her sister's impulsive decision and what these big changes will mean for their lives together. Thankfully, things are going well for her at work --- she's a paleontologist, a fact which helps give the series its title --- where a kindhearted colleague named Lee (Lorn Macdonald) is helping her to see the many changes in her life in a more positive light. (And who may well be the future she's dreamed of.)

Here's the series' synopsis.

A new comedy series created by Matilda Curtis and Ashley Storrie, Dinosaur follows Nina, an autistic woman in her 30s, who adores living with her sister and best friend, Evie. They have a routine, and they understand each other like no one else could until Evie rushes into an engagement after only six weeks. Nina is forced to grapple with her sister’s impulsive decision whilst navigating love, sisterhood and her life as it’s turned upside down.

Alongside Storrie and Ronney, the ensemble cast also features David Carlyle (It’s A Sin) as Bo and Danny Ashok (Roadkill) as Ranesh. Other supporting performers include Greg Hemphill (Still Game), Sabrina Sandhu (Dodger), Ben Rufus Green (Trying), Jim Kitson (Vera), Sally Howitt (River City), Kate Dickie (Game of Thrones), and Sanjeev Kohli (The Madame Blanc Mysteries).

Created by Matilda Curtis (Goodbye Christopher Robin) and Storrie, the six-part series is a Two Brothers Pictures (The Tourist) production for Hulu, BBC Scotland, BBC iPlayer and BBC Three in partnership with All3Media International. It was commissioned by Jon Petrie, Director of BBC Comedy, and Louise Thornton, Head of Commissioning for BBC Scotland.

The series is directed by Niamh McKewon (Flooers) and executive produced by Sarah Hammond, Katie Churchill, Harry Williams, and Jack Williams, with Catriona Renton as Co-Executive Producer and Brian Coffey as Producer. The BBC Commissioning Editors are Emma Lawson and Gavin Smith.

All episodes of Dinosaur will stream on Hulu on April 5.
