Everything British for PBS Viewers to Stream in March 2024
March is finally roaring in, sweeping away the remnants of the winter blues and bringing with it the spring debuts. It's out with the old and in with the new, as All Creatures Great & Small, Miss Scarlet & The Duke, and Funny Woman all take a seat on the shelf for next year, and Masterpiece debuts the beginning of a spring lineup that will run until mid-May. Among the shows arriving, there's Nolly, Mr Bates vs the Post Office, MaryLand, the final season of Guilt, and Alice & Jack.
But that's not all! As fans of Walter Presents will recall, March 2023 was the beginning of PBS Passport getting on the ball for bringing over new seasons of series as they became available after years of being super behind the PBS Masterpiece Channel in receiving titles. Therefore, this month marks the first time yearly debuts start arriving on an annual schedule, with multiple foreign language favorites, including mystery series and period dramas, dropping new seasons alongside brand new miniseries and new acquisitions for fans to check out.
And, of course, we can't forget about Call The Midwife. PBS Passport members have already been enjoying early access to Season 13 since the middle of February. However, for those who are not members, the series will begin airing alongside Masterpiece's debuts in mid-March and streaming weekly episodes on the PBS app and the PBS Masterpiece Channel.
Let's run down everything coming with it to PBS streaming this March.
'Doc Martin' Seasons 6 & 7
Doc Martin fans, rejoice! Those who lament that only Seasons 9 and 10 were streaming on PBS Passport can now enjoy two more seasons starting at the top of next month. PBS has made a deal with Acorn TV to go back and start bringing over some of the older seasons to stream on PBS Passport that were never available previously, starting with Seasons 6 and 7, the first two to go behind the Acorn TV paywall back in the day. These are the seasons with Martin and Lousia's wedding, Martin learning to be a father to Baby James, and Lousia's extended trip to Spain with her mother.
All episodes of Doc Martin Seasons 6 and 7 arrive on PBS Passport on Friday, March 1, 2024.
'Rocco Schiavone: Ice Cold Murders' Season 5
RAI2's Rocco Schiavone, known outside of Italy as Rocco Schiavone: Ice Cold Murders, returns with Season 5 after Season 4 debuted in March 2023. (Seasons 1 through 3 arrived as a batch in December 2022.) The new season begins when an accidental gunshot costs Rocco (Marco Giallini) a kidney, but he tries to go on as usual. He throws himself into work to escape a profound emptiness but feels the ground slipping beneath his feet.
All four episodes of Rocco Schiavone: Ice Cold Murders Season 5 arrive Friday, March 1, 2024, on PBS Passport and the PBS Masterpiece Channel.
'House of Promises' (Das Haus der Träume) Season 1
Walter Presents' first new title for March is House of Promises (Das Haus der Träume). The German series from RTL+ is set in the late 1920s, focusing on the last years of the Weimar Republic, retold from the perspective of a young woman, Vicky Maler (Naemi Feitisch) from the provinces, who becomes a saleswoman in the newly opened Jonass department store in dazzling Berlin and falls in love with the son of the department store owner Arthur Grünberg (Alexander Scheer). The series was filmed as 12 episodes and aired in two parts, four months apart; this is the first half presented as Season 1.
All six episodes of House of Promises (Das Haus der Träume) Season 1 arrive on Friday, March 8, 2024, on PBS Passport and PBS Masterpiece Channel.
'Murder in Sweden' (Morden I Sandhamn) Season 3
As you may recall, the show that Walter Presents insists on calling Murder in Sweden is actually Morden I Sandhamn, The Sandhamn Murders. Season 1 dropped back in May 2023, and Season 2 in November. Season 3 now joins the set, Morden i Sandhamn: I Grunden Utan Skuld (which translates to Guiltless). This season is one that's still directly based on the book series by writer Viveca Sten.
All three episodes of Murder in Sweden (Morden I Sandhamn) Season 3 arrive on Friday, March 15, 2024, on PBS Passport and the PBS Masterpiece Channel.
'Nolly'
Sunday, March 17, 2024, is a banner day for PBS fans. Along with the debut of Call the Midwife Season 13 on the PBS app and the PBS Masterpiece Channel, Masterpiece brings two brand new series to the party. The first, debuting at 9 p.m. ET on linear, is Nolly. Helena Bonham Carter stars as Noele Gordon, better known as Nolly, the star of ITV's flagship soap Crossroads as motel owner Meg Mortimer... but in 1981, at the height of her fame, she is axed.
All three episodes of Nolly arrive on PBS Passport for members on Sunday, March 17, 2024, and debut weekly on the PBS App and PBS Masterpiece Channel.
'Alice & Jack'
Masterpiece's other big get for March is Alice & Jack, which debuted at the Toronto Film Festival in 2023. Starring Andrea Riseborough and Domhnall Gleeson as the titular couple, Alice & Jack is a love story that explores the relationship between two very different people over 15 years. The story explores the seminal question of whether the bonds between us are stronger than the forces that would tear us apart. This is the 10 p.m. ET series that follows Nolly on linear.
All six episodes of Alice & Jack debut on PBS Passport for members on Sunday, March 17, 2024, and premiere weekly on the PBS app and PBS Masterpiece Channel.
'Our Miracle Years' (Unsere Wunderbaren Jahre) Season 2
Much like Rocco Schiavone, the last time Walter Presents brought Our Miracle Years (Unsere Wunderbaren Jahre) to PBS Passport was March 2023, when Season 1 debuted with all episodes for members, with the show following with a linear debut soon after. Now the series is back with Season 2, as three generations of the Wolf family find themselves in the midst of a fateful clash between youthful rebellion and old-school ideals. How far are Winne and his friends prepared to go for their increasingly radical ideals?
All six episodes of Our Miracle Years (Unsere Wunderbaren Jahre) Season 2 arrive on Friday, March 22, 2024, on PBS Passport and the PBS Masterpiece Channel.
'Dear Mama' (Lieve Mama)
Not to be mistaken for the Tupac Shakur miniseries of the same name streaming on Hulu (though I don't blame you if the song is now stuck in your head), Dear Mama (original title Lieve Mama) is a Dutch miniseries that originally aired in the Netherlands on AFL1. Starring Rifka Lodeizen and Shahine El-Hamus, the series is about a mother and a teenage getaway driver whose lives become intertwined in a villa robbery gone bad.
All six episodes of Dear Mama (Lieve Mama) arrive on Friday, March 29, 2024, on PBS Passport and the PBS Masterpiece Channel.
