Turn & Face the Strange in 'Doctor Who' Season 14's Trailer
The new era of Doctor Who has been coming in fits and starts since Jodie Whittaker's exit in the centenary special in October 2022. The series moved house in the U.S. from BBC America to Disney+ with the trio of 60th Anniversary specials, and the series properly introduced Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson as his companion Ruby Sunday in the 2023 Christmas special. However, with the start of the new season, there is a genuine concerted effort by everyone to declare that here, now, this time, THIS, this is the start of the new era, and they have the David Bowie soundtrack for the trailer to prove it.
To be fair, the 60th anniversary was probably not the best way to introduce the series to an entire generation of new fans, and a Christmas special one-off probably didn't feel all that appropriate either. But the start of a new season, that's a nice place to declare a new beginning, especially since Disney+ and Bad Wolf productions are desperately trying to make it Season 1 all over again. (Do not be fooled. This is either Season 14, or Season 40, depending on where you count from. No other answers are acceptable.)
The new trailer, however, does bring quite a few new moments for fans to check out, including the first look at The Duchess character and a brand new special guest star this season no one was expecting. Check out the trailer, and if you know the lyrics to the Bowie song, feel free to sing along.
Here is the offical(ly useless) synopsis for the new season:
The Doctor and his companion Ruby Sunday travel across time and space, with adventures all the way from the Regency era in England, to war-torn future worlds. Throughout their adventures in the TARDIS — a time-traveling ship shaped like a police box — they encounter incredible friends and dangerous foes, including a terrifying bogeyman, and the Doctor’s most powerful enemy yet.
Gatwa and Gibson will be joined by a host of guest stars for their first outing in Season 14, including returnees Anita Dobson (The Long Call), Yasmin Finney (Heartstopper), Jemma Redgrave (Grantchester), Michelle Greenidge (Its a Sin), Angela Wynter (Last Christmas), and Bonnie Langford (Hotel Babylon). New guest stars for this season include (but are not limited to) Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Callie Cooke (Henpocolypse), Jinkx Monsoon (Happiest Season), and Lenny Rush (Am I Being Unreasonable).
Russell T. Davies is the Doctor Who showrunner, executive producer, and head writer. Additional executive producers include Phil Collinson, Joel Collins, Julie Gardner, and Jane Tranter.
