Though the failed heist is over and arrests have been made, more hurdles lie ahead for Alison in the season finale of Code of Silence. Liam is on the run with the jewel necklace, but detectives James and Ashleigh have managed to book three gang members involved in the heist. One more, Braden, is still on the run, and the detectives can’t get any helpful information on him. Ben, who was shot at the scene of the crime, undergoes major surgery and is in a coma, but is stable.
The detectives finish questioning Alison and release her to her mom, Julie. James and Ashleigh relocate Alison and Julie to a safe house because Braden and his associates know she worked with the detectives to impede the robbery. Oliver, another officer, is assigned to watch over them at the house.
Alison is frustrated by feeling stuck at the safehouse, so she asks Ashleigh to take her to visit Ben at the hospital. When they get there, Ben’s wife is waiting outside his hospital room and is upset to see Alison there. She knows all about Alison’s involvement in the case and accuses Alison of endangering Ben by sleeping with Liam and jeopardizing the case. She says if Alison had just done as she was told, Ben wouldn’t have gotten shot. Alison tries to apologize, but she doesn’t want to hear it.
Ashleigh and James question the three gang members they managed to arrest after the heist. All three have elaborate and well-constructed stories that conveniently pin the blame on Liam and Braden. The detectives aren’t buying any of it, but they can’t get enough incriminating information to arrest the three.
At the safehouse, Alison apologizes to her mom for all the turmoil she’s caused in their life. Alison is afraid the gang will never stop looking for her, and she and her mom are extra visible to anyone tracking them because they sign. She’s also upset about Liam and confesses to her mom that, despite her intentions, she has grown to truly like him. Alison seems uncomfortable when her mom points out that she used him, too.
The detectives are still searching for Braden, but they have to release the other gang members because they didn’t have enough evidence. They tell Alison that her relationship with Liam undermines all the evidence she collected. Alison is afraid that all the risks she took for the investigation were for nothing.
James has been trying to track down Liam, and in the process, discovers that Liam is not who he claimed to be. He tells Alison that Liam took on a new last name after leaving foster care. His foster father, Charlie, was murdered by an associate of Braden’s gang, and James thinks that Liam took the necklace as revenge.
Later that day, at the safehouse, a food delivery driver drops off food that Alison didn’t order. She senses something is up and checks inside the delivery to find a cell phone from Liam. She sneaks out of the safehouse without telling the detectives and meets him to talk.
Alison is furious with Liam, both because he had promised her no one would get hurt and because he spied on her using her hearing aids. She tells him it was incredibly invasive because her hearing aids are a part of her, and she thought he had understood that. He insists that Alison sleeping with him to inform on him was just as bad. Liam wonders if Alison engineered their relationship from the start, and Alison wonders if she ever really knew him at all. Liam acknowledges that they both made mistakes, but Alison doesn’t want to take any responsibility for them. He still asks her to run away with him, and she asks him to turn himself in. They reach a stalemate and say a solemn goodbye.
Alison returns to the safe house just long enough to leave a note for her mom, telling her that she had to take action. Alison goes to the Canterbury Tap to talk to Mark, the bar’s owner, and begs him to give crucial evidence to the police. Unbeknownst to Alison, Braden is there too. Braden kidnaps her and sends a hostage video to Liam. Alison’s mom brings her note to the police, and they all assume she has run away with Liam.
Liam gets the video and springs into action. He pays a quick visit to Dawn, his foster mom and Charlie’s widow. He tells Dawn that he colluded with the gang and took the necklace for Charlie and her. He wanted to take something from them, the way they had taken Charlie.
Braden takes Alison to a warehouse where Liam meets them with the necklace. Braden holds Alison at gunpoint, and Liam confesses that he did it all for Charlie. Liam hands over the necklace, and Braden lets Alison go, but forces Liam to his knees at gunpoint. Alison is frantic; she doesn’t want to leave Liam’s side, but Braden is screaming at her to get out. Liam pleads with her, but she doesn’t turn to leave until she notices that Liam is signing to her with his hands behind his head. He signs “Police, Go,” and realization hits Alison just before the warehouse is flooded with police. Liam finally switched sides and contacted the police before he went to get her.
The gang members are arrested, but the detectives allow Liam to speak with Alison. She’s touched that he gave himself up for her, and tells him she really did consider his offer of running away together.
Later, in court, Liam is charged with robbery and pleads guilty to it. From the stand, he signs to Alison, asking her to visit him in prison. She says she will. James stops by her house afterwards with a hefty check for her lip-reading services. He suggests a forensic lipreading course to her, telling her she could put her skills to good use.
We know that Alison’s story doesn’t end there, as Code of Silence has been picked up for a second season. Until then, all episodes of Code of Silence Season 1 are available to stream on BritBox
