The current Prime Minister may have a personality that's beaten by a head of lettuce, but at least he's lasted longer than the one in my fridge. Since lettuce is now going free as a tool of the proletariat, series creator and star Greg Davies has taken it upon himself to reappropriate it as a murder weapon. At least, that's what we think is happening in The Cleaner Season 3 trailer, which teases six new murders for Davies' Wicky to clean up after.

Based on the long-running German comedy series Der Tatortreiniger (Crime Scene Cleaner) that is actually funny! created by Ingrid Lausund, Davies' semi-satire of the British murder mystery reimagined as a workplace sitcom is one of the few comedies that the BBC has kept going in a time when the genre is struggling to find an audience. The dearth of comedy series has most British comedians concerned about their career longevity, which might explain how Davies manages to get the best a-listers in the business to make cameos on the show.

This season, there are a ton of familiar faces who will be watching Wicky wipe away the blood, brains, and gore as he travels from crime scene to crime scene, where death comes in all forms, even from the produce aisle.

Here's the Season 3 synopsis:

The Cleaner follows Paul ‘Wicky’ Wickstead, a state-certified cleaning technician with a very special field of work - he is a crime-scene cleaner responsible for the removal of any signs of death. Armed with chemicals, scrubbing brushes and cleaning rags, Wicky removes the gruesome mess at the scene of the crime. When carrying out his duties, he stumbles across the strangest of people, from the victims’ relatives, employers, neighbours and acquaintances to occasionally even the murderers themselves. And because he’s a sociable type, he sometimes gossips more than he cleans…

Davies is joined in Season 3 by guest stars Colenth Hill (Moonflower Murders), Gemma Whelan (D.I. Ray), Philippa Dunne (Derry Girls), Steve Pemberton (Happy Valley), Paula Wilcox (Trying), Rosie Cavaliero (The Power of Parker), Ben Willbond (Ghosts), Sharon Rooney (Barbie), Vicki Pepperdine (We Hunt Together), Chaneil Kular (Sex Education), Sheila Reid (Beyond Paradise), Derek Griffiths (Small Axe), Rebekah Staton (Doctor Who), Harry Peacock (Bad Education), Sophia Dall’Aglio (So Awkward), and Viraj Juneja (Horrible Histories).  As always, Zita Sattar returns in her role as PS Ruth Edwards, Wicky's friend on the force who helps him by being legally able to arrest the guilty parties.

Director Tom Marshall helmed all six episodes from scripts written by (and improv-ed from) Davies. Vivien Muller-Rommel executive produces, and Sam Ward produces.

The Cleaner Season 3 debuts on the BBC on Sunday, October 6, 2024. Seasons 1 and 2 streamed on BritBox in the U.S., Season 3 is expected to follow suit in late 2024 or early 2025.
