Eve Myles is staying booked and busy with a lead role in the BBC's next major thriller, The Guest. Described as "layered with intense drama," the series features the classic older woman/younger woman toxic dynamic, where the younger woman usurps the older one, or at least that's what the older woman suspects she must be doing. The series was first announced by the BBC in September 2024, as one of the many high-end series that have emerged from Quay Street Productions in recent years. Now, with the show set to arrive in the latter half of 2025, the first-look pictures are out.

Although the guest lists four stars, including two men and two women, all the photos are of Myles and her Welsh co-star, Gabrielle Creevey. The images offer a glimpse of the disparity between their lives "before they become intertwined and eventually unhinged."

The series may be a Quay Street production, but funding comes from BBC Cymru, as well as Welsh Government support through Creative Wales. Although it was only filmed in English (instead of both English and Welsh), it is part of the ongoing Welsh renaissance of stories by and for Welsh viewers. That's why it's disappointing that the series currently lacks an American distributor, but hopefully this will be rectified before the series debuts.

Here's the series synopsis:

The Guest is a fast-paced story that centres on the toxic and beguiling relationship between a successful business owner, Fran, and her employee, Ria. Ria has never had the time or opportunity to think about what she might actually want from the world. So, when she starts cleaning for Fran, she’s intoxicated by this confident and self-assured woman who encourages her to take control of her life, and when Ria flourishes, an intense friendship is forged.

However, when Fran’s advice leads to a shocking event, the lives of these two very different women become intertwined by shared secrets and dangerous plots. What follows is a compelling and manipulative game of cat and mouse. But just who is playing who?

Myles (Torchwood) stars as Fran, with Gabrielle Creevy (In My Skin) as Ria. The main cast also includes Sion Daniel Young (Lost Boys & Fairies) and Emun Elliott (The Gold). Supporting cast includes Bethan Mary-James (Death Valley), Julian Lewis Jones (House Of The Dragon), Joseph Ollman (Queenie), Clive Russell (The Witcher), and Catherine Ayers (The Way).

Written and created by Matthew Barry (Men Up), all four episodes of The Guest are directed by Ashley Way (Who is Erin Carter?) and produced by Karen Lewis. Both Berry and Way executive produce alongside Davina Earl & Nicola Shindler for Quay Street Productions, with Rebecca Ferguson & Nick Andrews for the BBC.

The Guest doesn't yet have an American distributor, but it is almost certainly going to BritBox if PBS doesn't scoop it up. It is currently slated to debut on the BBC in autumn of 2025.
