The 'Bad Sisters' Season 2 Trailer Puts the Garveys Under Pressure
Most PBS viewers know sister companies Walter Presents and Eagle Eye Drama from popular series like Professor T and Hotel Portofino. Eagle Eye and Walter Presents executive producer Jo McGrath told Telly Visions the company started re-adapting the shows from Walter Presents because she and co-producers Walter Iuzzolino and Jason Thorpe saw high-powered executives combing through them. "We started getting calls from very high-up—I won't name and shame—very high-up broadcast executives and people running movie companies asking for our Walter Presents slate. They wanted to know what shows we were buying because the shows became hits they saw as ripe for adaptation."
McGrath might not name and shame, but it's pretty evident that at least one of the adaptations she meant was Apple TV+'s Bad Sisters, one of the few English language remakes of a Walter Presents series currently in production that Eagle Eye doesn't produce. Based on the Belgian series Clan, which never even came to PBS Passport before Apple remade it, it was retitled The Outlaws for Walter Presents when it streamed on Channel 4.
Bad Sisters is also perhaps the only Walter Presents title that's a hit with viewers outside of PBS Passport, which is no mean feat considering PBS Passport has more members collectively via local stations than AppleTV+ has paying subscribers. However, once fans who haven't watched the show yet get wind of this Season 2 trailer, the series might wind up one of Apple TV's biggest shows to date.
Here’s the series synopsis:
Season 2 continues to follow the lives of the Garvey sisters, Eva, Grace, Ursula, Bibi, and Becka. Two years after the “accidental death” of ‘Grace’s’ abusive husband, the close-knit Garvey sisters may have moved on, but when past truths resurface, the ladies are thrust back into the spotlight, suspicions are at an all-time high, lies are told, secrets revealed, and the sisters are forced to work out who they can trust. We also see what appears at first to be happier times at Grace and Ian's wedding, with a toast to the new bride and groom, but darkness looms on the horizon.
Season 2 sees the return of the core cast with Sharon Horgan (Frayed) as Eva, Anne-Marie Duff (The Suspect) as Grace, Eva Birthistle (The Last Kingdom) as Ursula, Sarah Greene (Sexy Beast) as Bibi, and Eve Hewson (The Perfect Couple) as Becka. Other returnees from Season 1 include Daryl McCormack (The Woman in the Wall), Barry Ward (Clean Sweep), Michael Smiley (Obituary), Yasmine Akram (There She Goes), Jonjo O’Neill (The Irregulars), Peter Claffey (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), and Saise Quinn (Monster).
New cast members for Season 2 include Fiona Shaw (Baptiste), Owen McDonnell (Great Expectations), Thaddea Graham (Us), Deirdre Mullins (The Couple Next Door), Lorcan Cranitch (Magpie Murders), Liz Fitzgibbon (Normal People), and Justine Mitchell (Industry).
Dave Finkel and Brett Baer adapted the series with Horgan from the Belgian series Clan (The Outlaw), which Malin-Sarah Gozin created. Dearbhla Walsh returns as the show’s lead director for its second season. Horgan, Walsh, Gozin, Finkel, and Baer serve as executive producers; additional executive producers include Bert Hamelinck, Michael Sagol, and Faye Dorn & Clelia Mountford for Merman Television.
Bad Sisters Season 2 debuts with two episodes on Wednesday, November 13, followed by weekly installments every Wednesday through December 25, 2024.
